Job Summary:
Orthopedic Medical Surgical Nurse specializing in orthopedic care is needed for a unit with 43 private rooms, located in Peoria, Illinois. This position involves night shifts, providing care to patients with wide-ranging medical surgical and postoperative orthopedic conditions, including trauma cases with fractures. The role requires a minimum of 2 years of clinical experience and BLS certification.

Job Details:

• Schedule: 12-hour night shifts, minimum of 36 hours per week.
• Required Qualifications: Valid Illinois nursing license or confirmation that application has been initiated; BLS (American Heart Association); 2 years of clinical experience; active Illinois license or application verification.
• Duties: Provide postoperative surgical care and general medical-surgical nursing; manage patients with trauma and orthopedic conditions, including fractures.
• Patient Ratios: 1:4-5 on 12-hour nights; PCTs (patient care technicians) typically 1:7-8.
• Equipment: Use of ventilators, CPAP, Bipap, High Flow devices and telemetry monitors (Phillips). RNs are expected to troubleshoot equipment as needed and read telemetry strips.
• Float Requirements: Travel RNs are first to float to other medical-surgical floors when necessary.
• Dress Code: Any color scrubs with adult professional appearance; tattoos and piercings must be covered.
• Orientation: Department-specific orientation of two days.
• Additional Information: Local rate applies to clinicians with permanent addresses within 50 miles; no call or standby requirements; weekend coverage every other weekend (Saturday/Sunday day shift; Friday/Saturday night shift).
