Key Responsibilities

• Provide intensive respiratory care including operation of invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment, oxygen and aerosol devices, and nebulizer devices as physician prescribed
• Perform arterial punctures, suctioning, chest physiotherapy, oximetry and capnography monitoring, pulmonary function studies, and 12-Lead EKG with basic arrhythmia recognition
• Assist with respiratory-related procedures including bronchoscopy, percutaneous tracheostomies, and chest tube placement; perform tracheostomy care including insertion and removal of tracheostomy tubes
• Set up, self-test, operate, and monitor mechanical ventilation equipment; assist with preventative maintenance and repair as needed
• Perform cardiopulmonary resuscitation per BLS and ACLS guidelines and perform insertion and removal of endotracheal tubes via free-hand technique and/or video laryngoscope
• Accurately document all treatments, patient responses, and respiratory therapy charges in patient records and communicate findings to attending and pulmonary physicians

Required Qualifications

• Active Respiratory Therapist license within the applicable state
• Current BLS and ACLS certification
• Proficiency with invasive and non-invasive ventilatory equipment and respiratory care devices
• Ability to perform arterial punctures, pulmonary function studies, and interpret chest x-rays for further evaluation
• Ability to work with minimal supervision within the scope of professional licensure

Preferred Experience / Skills

• Experience in a moderate complexity laboratory setting including specimen handling, quality controls, and documentation
• Familiarity with PleurX catheter drainage and advanced airway management techniques
• Experience with shift-to-shift handoff communication and walking rounds in an acute care environment
