Role Description The Medical Surgical Nurse role at Ascension is a full‑time, on‑site position located in Cedar Park, TX. This role involves providing direct, evidence‑based patient care on a medical‑surgical unit, including assessing patients, developing and implementing nursing care plans, administering medications, monitoring vital signs, and coordinating care with interdisciplinary team members. The nurse will interpret telemetry data when applicable, respond to changes in patient conditions, and support safe transitions of care. Day‑to‑day responsibilities also include patient and family education, documentation in the electronic health record, adherence to safety and infection control standards, and participation in quality improvement initiatives that align with Ascension’s mission and clinical protocols. Qualifications Candidates should possess strong Nursing skills, including clinical assessment, care planning, and familiarity with medical‑surgical unit workflows. Candidates should possess foundational Medicine knowledge to collaborate effectively with providers and support evidence‑based treatment plans. Candidates should possess Critical Thinking abilities to prioritize care, recognize changes in patient status, and make sound, timely decisions. Candidates should possess Patient Care skills, including compassionate bedside care, patient advocacy, and effective communication with patients and families. Candidates should possess Telemetry skills, including monitoring, interpreting cardiac rhythms, and escalating concerns appropriately. Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the state of Texas (or eligibility to obtain) and graduation from an accredited nursing program. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required; Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification preferred for medical‑surgical/telemetry care. Prior medical‑surgical or acute care experience preferred; new graduates with strong clinical rotations may be considered. Ability to work collaboratively in a diverse, team‑based environment, maintain accurate documentation, and use electronic health record systems.
