Sterile Processing Dayshift Supervisor

Location: Geisinger Wyoming Valley (GWV) Shift: Days (United States of America) Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 Worker Type: Regular Exemption Status: Yes (Exempt) Job Summary: $1500 Signing Bonus, if eligible; Full time Day. Requires active CRCST, CER or CIS certification, 4 years of related work experience, 1 year supervisory experience, and CHL certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire. Job Duties Supervises operations and personnel of Central Sterile Supply. Maintains departmental compliance with regulatory agencies including Joint Commission and Department of Health. Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the Medical Center in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction. Ensures that the care of the instrumentation used in the operating room, clinic, emergency department and elsewhere in the institution is the responsibility of the Sterile Processing department. Actively participates in the development of and demonstrates thorough knowledge of the department and system goals and functions. Establishes internal inventory levels and maintains levels in accordance with established standards, monitoring these levels for proper utilization. Anticipates the availability of appropriate resource materials and personnel needed. Identifies, analyzes, interprets and acts on related problems within customer departments as they pertain to Central Sterile Supply. Ensures established procedures and standards of practice are followed for decontamination, cleaning, inspection, processing and sterilization of reusable supplies and equipment. Provides instructions and in‑service training on new products, procedures, case cart preparation and equipment. Maintains effective communication with appropriate nursing and medical center personnel regarding assigned duties. Oversees preparation and maintenance of the instrument asset inventory. Organizes department activity and workflow appropriately. Rounds in the operating room and throughout the department each shift to assess usage and anticipate needs, prioritizing instruments that are required. Assesses and understands staff competencies and develops an appropriate performance improvement program. Maintains sterilization records and related data in accordance with regulatory requirements. Performs ongoing evaluations of teams, required services for surgical suites, inpatient and outpatient units, and equipment and methods. Coordinates with hospital maintenance and contractor representatives to assure all equipment and installations are in proper operating condition. Provides comprehensive department orientation to all new personnel, as well as required training for all staff on an ongoing basis. Assures a safe working environment for all employees and visitors, utilizing knowledge of hazardous gases, substances and environmental conditions. Directs all housekeeping activities within the department. Supports budget preparation with administrative leadership; operates within budgetary guidelines and monitors operational budget for opportunities for fiscal improvement. Coordinates the interviewing of new and replacement employees. Ensures full compliance with regulatory agency mandates and recommendations. Oversees the development and updating of policies and procedures. Ensures that patient safety improvement and management programs receive high priority and support. Ensures sufficient time is available for staff participation in patient safety activities at both the department and organizational levels. Ensures staff attends all required patient safety education programs and counsels staff when necessary. Works typically in a clinical environment and is accountable for satisfying all job‑specific obligations and complying with all organization policies and procedures.
