Project Engineer - Construction Management

A nationally recognized, 100% employee-owned science and engineering consulting firm is seeking an experienced Coastal Engineer to support a diverse portfolio of waterfront, coastal, marine infrastructure, and dredging projects throughout Northern California and the San Francisco Bay Area. This role offers the opportunity to work alongside project managers, scientists, engineers, and construction teams while contributing to projects from initial concept and design through construction.

The ideal candidate brings 5+ years of civil infrastructure consulting experience, hands-on coastal or marine engineering expertise, strong construction oversight experience, and an EIT certification with a California PE license or the ability to obtain one within 24 months.

What you will be doing:

• Support coastal, waterfront, marine infrastructure, and dredging projects throughout Northern California.
• Perform coastal engineering analyses, including wave and structural calculations.
• Develop and review engineering drawings, technical details, specifications, and construction documents.
• Prepare plans, specifications, technical reports, engineering memoranda, and other project deliverables.
• Provide technical oversight and engineering support during construction.
• Respond to Requests for Information (RFIs) and review contractor submittals.
• Conduct field and construction site visits throughout the Bay Area and other Northern California project locations.
• Support shoreline stabilization, coastal resilience, rehabilitation, and marine infrastructure projects.
• Contribute to marina and port facility upgrades, dredging and beneficial-use planning, dune and berm restoration, and marine terminal improvements.
• Work with project managers and technical teams to coordinate schedules, budgets, tasks, and deliverables.
• Apply established project delivery practices to maintain quality, schedule, and cost control.
• Identify project risks and develop appropriate mitigation strategies.
• Coordinate with regulatory agencies and support permitting and compliance activities.
• Maintain current knowledge of California coastal and marine regulations and requirements.
• Assist with proposals, cost estimates, funding strategies, and project development.
• Contribute to technical best-practice resources and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop practical, high-quality engineering solutions.

Experience you will need:

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Structural, Coastal, Marine, Ocean Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• 5+ years of engineering consulting experience, preferably involving civil infrastructure.
• 4+ years of hands-on construction oversight, construction management, or field services experience.
• Demonstrated experience with coastal and/or marine engineering projects.
• EIT certification required.
• California PE license preferred, or the ability to obtain a California PE license within 24 months.
• Experience with design-bid-build project delivery.
• Experience coordinating with regulatory agencies and supporting permitting or regulatory negotiations.
• Experience preparing proposals and developing cost estimates and/or project funding strategies.
• Familiarity with state and federal infrastructure grant and loan programs.
• Strong technical writing, communication, organization, and project coordination skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with engineers, scientists, project managers, contractors, and clients.
• Willingness to travel locally to project sites approximately 50% or more of the time.
