Seasonal Tax Preparer (Part-Time) — Katy, TX Now hiring — training starts November 16, 2026. Applications are reviewed as they come in, so apply early. We’re looking for client-focused, detail-oriented Seasonal Tax Preparers to join our growing Katy office for the 2027 tax season. You’ll prepare accurate individual returns, build relationships with clients (many of whom have been with us for years), and help each client get full value from their tax appointment. Prior tax experience is a plus but not required. Four weeks of paid, structured training are provided before the season begins. Schedule & location Part-time seasonal: 20–25 hours per week, Monday–Friday, on-site in Katy November 16, 2026 – January 15, 2027: shifts between 10:00 AM and 4:00 PM (includes 4 weeks of paid training) January 18 – April 30, 2027: shifts between 9:00 AM and 5:00 PM You must be available for all four weeks of training and the full season What you’ll do Tax Preparation & Client Interviews Prepare individual 1040 returns, including W-2 and 1099 income, Schedules A, B, and C, the Earned Income Credit, and the Child Tax Credit Prepare light business returns (1120-S, 1065) under supervision and review Use our tax software and structured interview script to make sure every return is accurate and complete Greet clients in person, answer phones, and schedule appointments, including phone and virtual appointments through our client portal Client Relationships & Value Add Introduce yourself to returning clients before the season and keep those relationships strong through the year Explain results, credits, and tax law changes in plain language Spot clients who could benefit from tax planning, advisory, bookkeeping, or TAT Cares services, and flag them to the Lead Tax Preparer Documentation & CRM Document client interviews, tax positions, and notes for next year’s planning Keep CRM records clean and complete, and log every handoff and follow-up Compliance & Data Security Follow all EFIN security, data privacy, and due-diligence requirements Sign and honor a non-disclosure agreement and protect client information at all times Who we’re looking for Lives in the Katy area with reliable transportation Available Monday–Friday during the hours above, for the full season and all four training weeks Comfortable in a client-facing role, on the phone, and with walk-in clients Takes ownership of the work, from first contact to the accepted return, and stays productive during slow stretches without waiting to be told what to do Prior 1040 preparation experience preferred but not required (VITA, a tax internship, or a tax course is a plus) Strong attention to detail and comfortable with tax software and CRM systems (or able to learn quickly) Bilingual a plus, especially English/Spanish Has a PTIN or can get one before the season (we’ll guide you through it) Willing to sign an NDA and pass a background check What success looks like Accurate, compliant returns with minimal rework Client interviews that uncover every credit and deduction a client is entitled to Returning clients who stay with us year after year Consistent identification of planning and advisory opportunities Reliable attendance and punctuality throughout the season Why join our team Four weeks of paid training, plus ongoing support Performance bonuses for accuracy, client satisfaction, and reliability Exposure to business returns, advisory, and year-round planning work A path to permanent employment and senior preparer or advisory roles A supportive, professional office TakeAway Tax is an equal opportunity employer.
