Vice President of Youth Development

Position Summary This position supports the work of the YMCA of Southern Nevada, a leading nonprofit organization committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, the Vice President of Youth Development provides executive leadership and strategic direction for Youth Development as a primary pillar of impact within the YMCA of Southern Nevada’s 2026–2030 strategic plan. The Vice President oversees Youth Development and Safety and Risk operations, including Early Childhood Education, Licensed Childcare, Before and After School programs, Academic Intervention, Power Scholars Academy, Summer Camp, Teen Programs, 21st Century and CCSD partnerships, character development, outdoor education, nutrition, Youth Protection, and Safety & Risk Management. Responsibilities Strategic Leadership & Impact: Lead the strategic growth and operational execution of Youth Development in alignment with the YMCA’s 2026–2030 Framework for the Future. Expand Early Childhood capacity and school‑age programming, including opening a new early learning site in 2026. Strengthen academic outcomes through sustainable academic intervention models. Integrate character development and youth mental wellness practices across all programs. Develop and monitor key performance indicators. Apply a mission filter to evaluate grants, partnerships, and program expansion. Operational Excellence: Provide direct supervision and coaching to three Association Senior Directors. Ensure consistent program standards, curriculum alignment, pricing models, and staffing structures across all sites. Ensure compliance with Nevada childcare licensing, various grants (Y‑USA, CDBG, 21st Century, NV Ready, CCSD agreements), and YMCA standards. Oversee association‑wide summer camp planning, implementation, staffing, and safety protocols. Ensure facilities, equipment, and program environments meet high safety and quality standards. Financial Sustainability & Growth: Develop and manage a growing $4.4 million‑plus Youth Development budget. Ensure programs meet or exceed budget and net revenue targets. Oversee grant development, compliance, reporting, and renewal. Partner with Mission Advancement and Marketing to grow contributed revenue and community awareness. Implement responsible pricing strategies that protect access while ensuring sustainability. Leadership Development: Build leadership bench strength and succession plans. Align staffing structures with strategic priorities. Establish clear accountability, evaluation systems, and coaching practices. Strengthen recruitment and retention strategies for licensed childcare and school‑age staff. Community Engagement & Partnerships: Serve as liaison to CCSD and education partners. Strengthen public‑private partnerships to expand reach and sustainability. Represent the YMCA in community coalitions related to youth, education, and family wellbeing. Risk Management & Safety: Ensure full compliance with youth protection policies and mandated reporting. Oversee safety audits, incident reporting systems, and corrective action plans. Maintain Praesidium standards and act as the Association’s Praesidium Guardian. Perform all other duties as assigned. Abuse Risk Management Functions: Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children. Attend required abuse risk management training. Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations. Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements and job‑specific responsibilities. Use screening instruments to evaluate employees and volunteers for abuse risk. Provide ongoing supervision, training, feedback, and progressive disciplinary procedures related to abuse risk. Communicate the organization’s commitment to protect consumers from abuse and report essential information to supervisors or HR. Supervisory Responsibilities: Directly supervise three full‑time Association Senior Directors and indirectly oversee approximately 14 coordinator and director‑level staff and 250 frontline staff across multiple licensed onsite and offsite program locations. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training, retaining employees; planning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and coaching employees; addressing complaints; resolving problems; and reporting observations to the COO. Monitor payroll, staffing ratios, and adherence to human resource responsibilities. Work Environment & Physical Demands Must be able to perform essential functions with reasonable accommodation for disabilities. Requires sufficient strength, agility, and mobility to supervise activities in indoor and outdoor locations, sometimes in outdoor weather conditions. Regular computer use for extended periods, communication via computer and phone/smart device. Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, and occasionally lift up to 50 pounds. Minimum of 10 years progressive leadership experience in youth development or licensed childcare, including multi‑site management; at least 5 years supervising senior‑level leaders. Minimum of 5 years managing a $2 million or greater budget and experience managing complex grant‑funded programs. Experience working with public school systems and government partnerships preferred; previous YMCA experience preferred. Highly skilled in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint); experience with budgeting software and data reporting platforms. Strong strategic thinking and change management skills. Proven ability to develop authentic relationships and build community partnerships. Strong public speaking and executive presence. Subject matter expertise in youth development, academic intervention, and licensing compliance. Upon hire, complete YMCA’s Working with Children training; within 30 days, obtain current CPR for professional rescuer (including AED), First Aid, and Emergency Oxygen certifications.
