Job Summary
Caterpillar is looking for a Mechanical Engineer 3 to support prototype design, fabrication, testing, and development of electrified machines and systems . This is a highly hands-on engineering role with significant shop-floor work. Key Responsibilities
- Support design, analysis, prototyping, manufacturing, and testing of mechanical/electrical components.
- Work with 1 3 prototype project teams simultaneously.
- Operate and maintain 3D printers, CNC machines, welding equipment, and fabrication tools .
- Troubleshoot prototype equipment and systems.
- Design and build prototype parts and assemblies.
- Support prototype inventory, logistics, and delivery.
- Work closely with engineering teams to develop better prototype designs and manufacturing practices.
- Provide technical support from design through build and testing.
- 5+ years of relevant experience.
- Engineering degree preferred: Mechanical, Electrical, Software/Controls, or Industrial Engineering .
- 2-year degree may be considered with 9 years of applicable experience .
- Master's degree candidates should have 5+ years of experience .
- Relevant internships may count depending on experience.
- CAD design
- Mechanical and fabrication skills
- CNC machinery operation and diagnostics
- Microsoft Office Suite.
- Creo / Creo Simulate .
- Design for Manufacturing and Assembly ( DFMA ).
- CAD/CAM experience preferred.
- Additive manufacturing / 3D printing experience is a plus.
- Welding experience is a plus.
- Machine and system troubleshooting/diagnostics.
- Strong customer and team focus.
- Ability to work with a wide range of engineering teams.
- Strong communication and collaboration.
- Ability to develop, mentor, and train others on prototype design and manufacturing best practices.
- Hands-on, safety-focused, and detail-oriented.
A Mechanical/Manufacturing/Prototype Engineer with 5+ years of experience and strong hands-on skills in CAD, Creo, CNC machining, fabrication, prototyping, and troubleshooting . Experience with electrification, additive manufacturing, welding, or automotive/heavy-equipment prototypes is highly desirable.
Important: This is a hands-on onsite role , approximately 75% shop / 25% office . Candidate must be able to lift 30 lbs unassisted and stand for extended periods . PPE will be provided.
