Position Purpose The Assistant Director of Operations is responsible for the overall management of operations at the Herb Brooks National Hockey Center (HBNHC). This position monitors staffing and equipment expenses to meet the financial goals of the HBNHC budget, plans, manages, and executes appropriate coverages for scheduled facility activities, and oversees ice‑related equipment and field of play maintenance, custodial services, and on‑time facility operations. Coverage for nights and weekends may be required based on event schedules. Principal Responsibilities and Results Develop, train, and implement standard operating procedures for the ice surfaces and related fields of play at the HBNHC, including ice maintenance, ice making/painting, and equipment maintenance/operation. Maintain the field of play commensurate with NCAA DivisionI ice hockey standards and conduct inspections of the dasherboard system, spectator netting, and related equipment. Plan and execute annual ice installation, coordinate ongoing ice maintenance, and oversee preventative maintenance schedules for related equipment. Establish and maintain standard operating procedures for all full‑time and part‑time ice resurfacer operators within the HBNHC. Implement and execute indoor air quality regulations and standards for enclosed arenas per Minnesota Department of Health. Coordinate and manage overall operations and facility maintenance, submit work orders, liaise with skilled facility trades, and communicate work‑order status to the Director. Collaborate with full‑time and student staff to uphold high‑level customer service standards, maintain a clean, safe, and friendly environment for all user groups, and oversee opening/closing of the facility, safeguarding and managing interior spaces. Oversee, implement, and execute student staff training for all operational positions, supervise the full‑time Ice Makers(s) and part‑time student staff, and manage staff coverage, onboarding, training, evaluation, scheduling, off‑boarding, and promotional opportunities. Develop, implement, and maintain accurate logbook records for preventive maintenance programs, ice resurfaces, ice maintenance, and equipment within the field of play; ensure accurate measurement and recording of indoor air quality; submit quarterly logbooks and Field of Play (FoP) reports. Assist the Director with short‑term operational planning, long‑range capital improvements, and recommend equipment and operational purchases. Perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications 2‑years of professional experience managing an ice arena (associate level may substitute 6months of experience, BA/BS may substitute 1year of experience, Master’s may substitute 1.5years of experience). 1‑year providing work direction and scheduling staff. Outstanding communication skills (verbal and written). Basic computer proficiency (Apple, Microsoft, Adobe, etc.). Critical thinking and organizational skills. Preferred Qualifications Valid Driver’s License for operating a motor vehicle. Certified Ice Technician designation. First Aid and CPR certification. Other Requirements Ability to lift 50lbs. Ability to work in a cold environment for long periods of time. Work Shift (Hours / Days of Work) Monday – Friday, 7:00am – 3:30pm. Overtime may be required on nights and weekends to support SCSU events. Employment Information Salary Range: $23.98 – $34.69 (annual). Classified – unlimited. Full‑time. The position is non‑exempt.
