Resident Care SpecialistSalary range: $95,000-$110,000 per year.100% travel on assignment.The Resident Care Specialist (RCS) is responsible for providing leadership, support, and direction to multiple communities within our portfolio to ensure company policy and procedure are carried out and that regulatory compliance standards are being met. He or she works closely with the resident care team at each community to develop and implement processes, identify, and resolve issues, while also managing associates. The Resident Care Specialist helps grow and develop an exceptional resident care team through purposeful hiring, individualized training and competency, and creative scheduling to support the strengths and needs of each associate. This position is a road warrior, 100% travel, requiring extensive travel across several states with the potential for lengthy assignments at one community. It is Our Responsibility• We Take Ownership and Add Value• We are RespectfulJob Requirements• Maintains an unencumbered state license as a professional Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse in Virginia.• Compact nursing license, with multi-state privileges preferred, not required.• Certified in CPR and first aid.• Minimum of three (3) years’ experience as a Director of Nursing/Resident Care Director/Assisted Living Director.• Minimum of one (1) year of nurse management experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and daily resident care operation supervision.• Ability to teach Virginia Direct Care Training Class and Medication Aide Training (or ability to obtain).• Virginia UAI Certified (or ability to obtain).• Individualized Service Plan (ISP) Train the Trainer through the State of Virginia (or ability to obtain).• Experience with resident assessment and care planning.• High level of communication skills, both verbal and written.• Understand and conceptualize complex concepts, as well as the ability to make appropriate decisions in stressful situations.• Confirmed leadership experience – able to inspire and motivate others.• Ability to work weekends, evening, and flexible hours as needed for resident care and services, including on-call responsibilities.• Ability to show sincere compassion and demonstrate genuine concern for the physical and emotional needs of seniors and their families.• Must be proficient in basic office equipment, including a personal computer, for the purpose of accomplishing and maintaining a high level of job performance.• Live out Commonwealth Senior Living’s Noble selling purpose – “We improve the lives of seniors, their families, and each other.”• Valid and acceptable driving record.Areas of Primary Responsibility• Models a business philosophy that treats every resident and family member as a personal customer.• Ensures provision of services to the residents and ensures that all Federal and State policies governing resident care are closely monitored and conducted.• Function as a care manager and resource person for the residents and their families.• Evaluate community resident care schedules to ensure adequate staffing levels to meet the needs of the residents in accordance with the established budget.• Responsible for assisting the Resident Care Director with designing and executing a strategy for the retention of residents in the community as per regulatory licensing requirements. • Assist communities with vacancies at Resident Care Director by acting in that role on a short-term basis.• Support orientation for new Resident Care Directors, Assistant Resident Care Directors, and resident care associates to ensure that all are knowledgeable of expectations, policy, procedure, as well as competent in resident care skills.• Ensure the completion of assessments on all residents twice per year, or with changes in resident condition, as required by company policy and regulatory licensing requirements.• Monitor readiness for state survey and assist during the survey process.• Aid in the plan of correction (POC) process through training, auditing, and execution and evaluation of systemic changes.• Identify and resolve any regulatory compliance risk.• Review community systems such as falls, infection prevention and control, admissions and discharges, re-hospitalizations, weight loss, pressure ulcers, medication management, level of care assessments, etc., and suggest improvements in processes where needed.• Evaluate departmental schedule and ensure adequate staffing in accordance with company standards, policies, procedures, budgets, and state law.• Communicates effectively with community personnel, including conducting entrance and exit conferences with Community leadership.• Interview, hire, evaluate, motivate, and monitor the performance of the care associates in the community. Recruitment and selection should focus on qualified candidates who model our core values with an interest in resident care. • Establish rapport with residents, families, direct care associates, department managers, providers, vendors, and other state regulatory agency personnel.• Provide education, training and/or competency to community personnel on resident care skills, resident care policies, regulatory compliance, and other courses as needed within the company footprint.• Evaluate compliance with continuing education programs for direct care associates, as regulated by Federal and State licensing requirements.• Collaborate with community associates to understand specific needs, make recommendations, and provide education/training regarding policies and procedures.• Conduct interviews/observations on a continual basis of residents to alert Executive Director, family, and other appropriate individuals of any changes in the physical or emotional health of the resident.• Maintain/keep clear record keeping on a consulting visit form noting anything discovered, endorsed, and trained with follow up as indicated.• Demonstrates ability to appropriately delegate responsibility with necessary authority without relinquishing his/her overall responsibility and accountability for the delegated task.• Attends scheduled meetings, conferences, and training sessions, as required, and as needed, for Commonwealth Senior Living and/or professional licensure.• Maintain regular communication with the Senior Vice President of Resident Care.• Strive to maintain a safe working environment through the prevention of accidents, the preservation of equipment, and the achievement of safe working practices.• Position will require travel and overnight stays in multiple states.• Other duties as assigned.
