Engineering Technician II

Pay Range $24.67 - $30.83 per hour. Job Posting Closing Date Friday, May 22, 2026 Workdays & Hours Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm. Some evening or weekend work may be required. Job Overview An Engineering Technician II position is available with the City of Fort Worth Water Department In-House Design Group. The selected candidate should be able to read engineering plans and profiles, interpret specification books, and understand water and sewer maps. The role involves design and drafting of water and sanitary sewer lines using AutoCAD, providing information to the public, contractors and consultants, and addressing high volume of telephone, e‑mail and public inquiries. Minimum Qualifications Associate’s Degree or higher in a related field such as planning or engineering. Two (2) years of increasingly responsible technical engineering experience in drafting, design or technical research assistance. OR high school diploma or GED plus five (5) years of experience in drafting, design or technical research assistance. Must pass a drug screen. Must possess a valid driver’s license and have an acceptable driving record. Preferred Qualifications Good organizational and detail‑focused skills. Strong verbal communication and writing skills. Ability to work independently under the direction of senior engineering staff. Experience using AutoCAD to create water and wastewater utility plans. Experience with GIS and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint). Job Responsibilities Gather data through research. Address customer and contractor inquiries. Perform calculations to evaluate proposed sites for utility service. Recommend solutions for design‑related challenges. Verify field measurements and conditions for proposed project sites. Working Conditions and Physical Demands Positions in this class require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, walking, repetitive motions, climbing and balancing. Medium effort may involve exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly when moving objects.
