The primary purpose of the Maintenance Mechanic position is to perform plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, electrical, and household appliance repair and preventative maintenance services so that the residence halls are kept in good repair and meet all local, state, and federal regulations for safe and habitable housing. The Maintenance Mechanic will complete assigned work orders and process information through the use of an online work order system. The Maintenance Mechanic will also oversee and train student maintenance staff.

Requirements and Preferences

Work Schedule - Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm, some evenings and weekends

Minimum Experience/Education - High school diploma or equivalency; or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Some positions may require special licenses or certification(s). Optional Guidelines: Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the area of assignment may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Department Required Skills - Experience at or near journeyman level in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry trades. Must possess a working knowledge of the methods, practices, and materials used in the general maintenance and repair of residential buildings. Must have the ability to operate machine shop equipment (including computer), the ability to follow oral and written instructions, and the ability to perform physical tasks for an extended period of time. Must be able to lift up to 60 pounds with or without reasonable accommodations.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education - Progressing experience at or near journeyman level in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, and carpentry trades.

Required License or Certification - Valid NC Driver's License required

Anticipated Hiring Range - $26 per hour
