Advanced Manufacturing & Service Center Laboratory Specialist Role Summary This position combines laboratory support and service center operations, with approximately 50% time spent in the Mechanical & Aerospace Engineering Senior Design Laboratory and 50% time operating the hot press facility at the Service Center. The specialist will fabricate specialized components for research and instruction, and maintain and operate advanced manufacturing equipment. Responsibilities Primary operation of water jet, laser cutter and 3D printing equipment. Assist the Laboratory Manager with ME 416 and ME 200 class needs. Collaborate with the Research Fabrication Facility Supervisor to fabricate research projects, develop CNC programs, set‑up and operate CNC machines. Consult with researchers and faculty concerning materials, design, and manufacturing details. Perform laboratory audits, inventory certification and liaison activities. Mandate mandatory safety training for graduate and undergraduate students. Set up, operate, supervise, and perform routine maintenance on the hot press machine. Maintain machine logs, consumables inventory, and mandatory safety protocols. Assist machine users with recipe development and process troubleshooting. Coordinate with Environmental Health & Safety, OEM partners, and crew for maintenance and compliance. Other Responsibilities Perform other duties as assigned based on organizational needs and priorities. Qualifications Minimum Experience/Education: High school diploma or equivalency and two years of related experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Preferred Qualifications: Experience operating and training on milling machines, lathes, grinders, water jets and 3D printers. Knowledge of AutoCAD or SolidWorks for water jet programming and 3D printer operation.
