Accounting Mgr / Controller

Controller Our client, a hospitality and recreation organization, is seeking a Controller to oversee its accounting operations, financial reporting, internal controls, and asset management activities. Location: This role is primarily on-site five days per week in the San Francisco Peninsula area, with some flexibility based on individual circumstances. Job Description: This hands-on leadership role will manage day-to-day accounting while providing timely financial insights to senior leadership and other stakeholders. The ideal candidate combines strong technical accounting expertise with team leadership, sound business judgment, and a service-oriented approach. Responsibilities: Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, general ledger, cash management, billing, and collections Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including reconciliations, variance analysis, and budget-to-actual reporting Prepare and present financial reporting packages to senior leadership and other key stakeholders Manage cash activity, banking relationships, investment accounts, and working capital requirements Coordinate annual audits, tax filings, regulatory reporting, and supporting documentation with external service providers Develop, implement, and maintain accounting policies, internal controls, and financial procedures Oversee fixed assets, construction-in-progress, depreciation, inventory accounting, and capitalization activities Review revenue and expense allocations to ensure accurate accounting treatment and compliance with U.S. GAAP Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff while remaining actively involved in day-to-day execution Support financial analysis, process improvements, system enhancements, and other strategic projects as needed Requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field; CPA strongly preferred 5+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including at least 1 to 2 years of leadership responsibility Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, financial reporting, month-end close, reconciliations, and internal controls Experience overseeing broad accounting operations, including cash management, fixed assets, audits, and regulatory compliance Strong Excel, analytical, organizational, and communication skills, with the ability to lead a team and operate hands-on in a service-focused environment Compensation: With that said, as required by local law in geographies that require salary range disclosure, Vaco by Highspring notes that the salary range for the role is noted in this job posting.
