Financial and Budget Analyst

Position Information Under the direction of the Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) for Intercollegiate Athletics, the Financial and Budget Analyst independently performs complex financial, budgetary, and compliance analysis for the Athletics Department. The Analyst applies advanced problem‑solving skills to support long‑range financial planning, evaluate fiscal performance, and recommend process improvements, contributing to the department’s administrative, financial, and compliance operations. The position manages budget planning and financial reporting for 17 NCAA Division I programs, including preparation of required NCAA, Big West Conference (BWC), and governmental reports (e.g., DOE/EADA). Core duties include year‑end fiscal closing, general ledger reconciliations, and cost/budget transfer reviews to ensure accuracy, compliance, and timely resolution of discrepancies. The Analyst also serves as a key resource for the annual NCAA Agreed‑Upon Procedures (AUP) audit and other financial compliance reviews. In addition, the Analyst prepares financial materials, dashboards, and reports for committee meetings and coordinates with the CFAO and Athletics leadership. The full salary range for the Director of Business Operations is $75,900 – $137,300 annually. We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements. Requirements Educational Requirements Bachelor’s degree in a related area and/or equivalent experience/training. Master’s Degree in business administration or related field, or an equivalent combination of education. Experience Requirements Minimum of 4–7 years of related experience. Experience working in higher education and/or a Division I Athletics Business Office and working knowledge of NCAA regulations. Minimum Requirements Proven ability to use spreadsheet and database software for complex financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reports. Skill in evaluating and analyzing data and information to identify patterns, trends, and relationships, and applying the concepts to formulate logical conclusions or recommendations. Knowledge of and experience in applying budgeting and financial management policies and best practices and developing related internal controls. Knowledge in retrieving, querying, and analyzing data from various internal/external systems to produce meaningful reports. Ability to function as a member of a team. Ability to maintain confidentiality at all times. Has ability to independently gather required information, organize, and perform financial analysis assignments. Proven interpersonal skills with peers throughout the organization; service orientation; critical thinking; attention to detail; ability to multi‑task in a high‑volume environment, organizational skills. Ability to present information in a clear and concise manner both in writing and verbally. Skilled in preparing and analyzing periodic financial statements using complex financial systems, and designing queries to mine for relevant data. Ability to adapt to changing priorities. Ability to perform analytical studies related to departmental resources across departments/programs. Preferred Qualifications Advanced PC skills to create documents, spreadsheets, and reports using Word, Access, Excel (Pivot Tables), or other software applications; experience with exporting/importing data from or to different applications; and operating knowledge of Internet for information gathering. Demonstrated working knowledge of UC/UCR policies. Ability to prepare annual EADA and NCAA Revenues and Expenses report. Proven skills for implementing and managing a Procurement card program. Thorough knowledge and understanding of internal control practices and their impact on protecting University resources. Thorough knowledge of finance policies, practices and systems.
