Medical Assistant

Job Title

Pay Rate: $18/hr - $22/hr

Shift Timings: M - F 9a - 5p

Work Mode: General Office Environment

Responsibilities:

• Perform venipuncture and/or EKGs, check schedules, and organize patient flow.
• Accompany patients to exam/procedure room and assist with walking, transferring, and dressing.
• Collect and process specimens and conduct point of care testing.
• Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, and relay instructions to patients and families.
• Answer calls and provide pertinent information.
• Send and receive patient medical records, obtain lab/x-ray reports, hospital notes, and referral information.
• Complete forms and requisitions as needed and manage charts using EMR or manually.
• Enter orders into the EMR system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review.
• Inventory, order, or re-stock medical supplies as applicable.
• Set up examination room and instruments following proper sterilization techniques.
• Maintain logging system for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, and sterilization process.
• Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies, disposing appropriately.
• Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
• Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to hazardous substances.
• Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, test results, and home care forms.
• Schedule surgeries/procedures, verify times with patients, and prepare charts and consent forms.
• Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
• Schedule appointments, register patients, and update demographic and insurance information.
• Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedule.
• Verify and update insurance information using internal or web sources.
• Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

• High School Diploma/GED with completion of an approved Medical Assistant certificate course.
• Medical Assistant certificate from an approved school.
• BLS certification Required Issuing Authority: AHA.

Preferred Skills:

• Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural and language-deficit patients.
• Effective interpersonal and communication skills required.
• Excellent telephone etiquette.
• Proficient in medical terminology and HIPAA guidelines.
• Knowledge of electronic medical record or billing systems preferred, but not required.
• Must be able to adapt to a growing and changing environment.
