Medical Laboratory Scientist II - Edison, NJ, Monday to Friday, 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM, with rotational weekends Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Medical Laboratory Scientist II in Edison, NJ. This role is a hospital-based position at JFK. Pay range: $32.00 - $50.73 / hour. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Successful candidates may be eligible to receive annual performance bonus compensation. Responsibilities Perform test procedures of moderate/high complexity, exercising independent judgment in qualified specialties. Demonstrate proficiency in all areas of testing and troubleshoot applicable instruments and procedures. Provide support in quality control, troubleshooting, customer support, instrument and equipment maintenance, staff training, process improvement, and special projects. Perform and report on assigned analytical tests in accordance with SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met. Support laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, processing, test analysis, reporting, and record maintenance. Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including stats or critical results to clients. Ensure reagents/test kits are correctly labeled with received, expiration, and opening dates. Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function. Make QC disposition decisions. Notify supervisory personnel of all problems associated with test procedures. Report actual or potential deviations from standard or accepted testing procedures and cooperate with investigations. Enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized reports. Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition. Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate. Assist supervisor with training other laboratory personnel. Adhere to all established CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and laboratory safety requirements. Use personal protective equipment, engineering controls, and/or work practice controls as directed. Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable. Participate in government or regulatory agency inspections, if needed. Assume lead responsibilities when a supervisor is absent, if qualified and delegated. Perform other duties as assigned. This is a general description of work performed and not exhaustive. Qualifications Required Work Experience: One (1) year full‑time experience or training (high complexity testing) in a clinical laboratory setting. Preferred Work Experience: Minimum of 3 years clinical experience, most recent year in the present department. Physical and Mental Requirements May require lifting and carrying objects (1–10 lb frequently; 11–25 lb occasionally; 36–50 lb seldom; >50 lb with assistance). Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods. Frequent walking and/or standing. Use a variety of manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments, demanding manual dexterity. Knowledge Comprehensive theoretical and operational knowledge in designated specialty. Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures. BS/BA in Medical Technology, Chemistry, or Biology, or associate’s degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology; or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493.1433 (published March 14 1990). Foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF. US‑educated candidates must provide transcript. Other state‑specific requirements may apply depending on BU’s state testing certifications. Skills Proven leadership and problem‑solving skills. Detail‑oriented, capable of working independently, establishing priorities, and handling multiple tasks simultaneously. Interpersonal skills necessary to deal courteously and effectively with supervisors, co‑workers, and clients. Communication skills necessary to handle telephone inquiries from clients. Ability to handle client information confidentially. Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Laboratory Information Systems.
