Sr. Medical Laboratory Scientist – Edison, NJ, Monday to Friday, 6:30AM to 3:00PM (rotational weekends) Quest Diagnostics is hiring a Sr. Medical Laboratory Scientist in Edison, NJ. This role is a hospital-based position at JFK. Pay range: $33.00 - $54.45 per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications. The Senior Medical Technologist is proficient in all duties of a Medical Technologist I and II. As a Subject Matter Expert (SME), the Senior is responsible for complex laboratory testing, provides broad decision‑making authority, and offers technical direction to staff. The Senior also handles complex non‑routine testing, resolves analytical problems, and trains personnel. Responsibilities Demonstrates all characteristics of Med Tech I and II Applies evidence‑based criteria to correlate and interpret laboratory testing data Performs clinical validation to optimize laboratory testing as directed Serves as a technical subject matter expert by demonstrating problem solving and troubleshooting instrumentation and assays Provides technical resource for the unit by investigating and resolving analytical testing problems, recommending a course of action beyond acceptable limits, and responding to non‑routine/complex inquiries from clients and sales representatives Provides technical direction to team members regarding all matters of testing Acts as trainer and SME in education; designs and implements training material; evaluates technical competencies and recommends continuing education Proficient in understanding and interpreting trends and variables when implementing QC theory and policies Reviews requests for validity checks and recommends an appropriate course of action considering specimen limitations and quality of additional or repeat testing Expedites workflow to maximize productive capacity by evaluating production systems and coordinating resolution of production problems involving other laboratory departments Reviews unit activities to ensure compliance with departmental policies and federal, state, and local regulations Competent in most areas within the department Participates in special projects as assigned Performs other duties as directed by Supervisor Qualifications Required Work Experience: Minimum of five to seven years clinical experience with two years in the present department. Preferred Work Experience: Blood Bank experience. Physical and Mental Requirements: Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time. Knowledge: Foreign‑educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from IERF (International Education Research Foundation). U.S. educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript. Skills: Effective communication and collaboration within the department, with other functions, and with third parties (clients) Ability to establish work priorities for self and others; handle several procedures simultaneously, including troubleshooting instruments and other problems Ability to schedule and manage resources to meet department goals Maintains patient confidentiality at all times Education: BS in Medical Technology preferred; or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology, or Associates degree in a Laboratory Science or Medical Technology, or previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR 493. ASCP Certified.
