CNC Machinist

Peterson Cartridge Company has an opening for a first shift CNC machinist. Our facilities are clean, well-lit, and 5-S efficient. We produce match-grade, precision rifle casings to the highest quality standards for competitive shooting, hunting, and military use. Job Summary We are seeking a dynamic and detail-oriented CNC machine operator to join our team on the first shift from 7 AM - 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Responsibilities 1. Operate CNC vertical mill and CNC router Setup all fixture plates, tooling and raw material Call / send programs Inspect all parts as required during cutting and when finished utilizing proper instrumentation Communicate with engineering for program changes, tooling, efficiencies, scheduling, materials etc. Read blueprints and schematics, redline as needed and communicate to engineering Perform regular PMs Chasing threads, hand chamfering, stoning, sanding, buffing etc as needed Track Setup & Cut times Assembly new tooling Maintain existing tooling 2. Inspect all incoming custom-made parts Machine components Forming tooling Material Handling Tooling 3. Inspect incoming cups for production 4. 5S for all of the CNC operational areas 5. Maintain inventory of raw materials, request new raw material as needed 6. Maintain inventory of tooling, request new tooling as needed 7. Manage chip waste and scrap from CNC machines 8. Communicate with engineering, maintenance, and production as necessary Required Skills and Qualifications 1. 5 years of CNC vertical milling experience 2. Mechanically inclined with a high mechanical aptitude of at least 60% 3. Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills 4. Ability to lift and move heavy equipment 5. Skilled in analyzing mechanical drawings 6. Skilled with measuring instruments Micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, depth gauge, etc 7. Good verbal and written communication skills 8. Good time-management skills Ability to prioritize tasks and reprioritize tasks when needed 9. Works well with others in a team environment, as well as self-motivated when working alone 10. Ability to learn on the fly, at a fast pace, and retain most or all of the information. Desired Skills and Qualifications 1. 10-years of CNC vertical milling experience 2. Doosan CNC vertical milling experience 3. CAD and CAM experience 4. Ability to operate the machinery and technical equipment below Manual Mill and/or Lathe Digital Comparator 5.
