Grants Specialist

Position Title: Grants Specialist Department: President's Office Position Type: Non-Bargained Position Overview The Grants Specialist manages the strategic and daily operations of the Grants Office. Reporting to the Associate Vice President of Institutional Advancement, the role provides comprehensive support to faculty and staff in grant proposal development, submission, and management. Key duties include identifying potential funding opportunities, crafting proposal narratives, conducting research and analysis to meet application requirements, aligning grant strategies with funder processes, monitoring active awards, ensuring compliance, coordinating reports, and maintaining relationships with funding agencies. Key Responsibilities Program Administration Coordinate with faculty and staff to write proposal narratives for federal, state, local, and foundation grant applications and reports. Lead the grant administration process to ensure compliance, timely submission, and reporting deadlines. Provide expert writing assistance to faculty and staff in the development of grant proposals. Research facts, background information, and other required data for proposal development. Edit and proofread grant proposals and applications to improve flow, clarity, and adherence to RFP requirements. Support grant managers with grant reports submitted to funding agencies. Prepare internal reports as required by the grants administration process. Perform other related duties in support of this work. Professional Activities Maintain membership and participate in professional activities of appropriate local, state, and national organizations. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Education: Master’s Degree with coursework in planning, grants, research, or a closely related field. Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years in project planning, grant proposal research and writing; experience leading planning sessions that result in project plans and related outcomes. Knowledge: Ability to research grant opportunities aligned with institutional priorities; strong persuasive writing skills; knowledge of English grammar, vocabulary, and spelling; ability to interpret complex grant applications; ability to prioritize tasks and work collaboratively; knowledge of project design and management in an educational environment; knowledge of non-profit program management, budgeting, and evaluation. Skills: Facilitate group discussions using the Logic Model or related tools; work independently and on teams to meet competing deadlines; excellent communication, scheduling, and organizational skills; strong oral and written communication; interpersonal skills; ability to research data for “Statements of Need”; proficiency in MS Office Suite, spreadsheet skills, and experience with Login.gov or related grant application portals.
