Patient Population: Adult acute care patients across multiple hospital units

Float Expectations: RNs may float to various acute care units based on hospital staffing and patient care needs.

The Acute Care Float Pool provides experienced RNs with the opportunity to support multiple nursing units throughout Baylor Scott & White Hospital College Station. Float Pool RNs are expected to adapt quickly to different unit environments, patient populations, workflows, and care teams while maintaining safe, high-quality patient care.

This position is ideal for an RN who enjoys variety, works well independently, and is comfortable adjusting to changing patient care needs. Float Pool RNs use strong clinical judgment and nursing knowledge to provide care across appropriate acute care settings while collaborating with unit leadership and interdisciplinary teams.

PRN Requirements:

• PRN RNs are required to work a minimum of 2 shifts per 6-week period.
• RNs must be able to float to assigned units based on staffing and operational needs.
• Full orientation is provided and includes an in-person orientation week.
• Successful Float Pool RNs demonstrate flexibility, adaptability, strong communication, and the ability to quickly integrate into different unit environments.

Job Summary

As an RN Float, you are vital in healthcare, coordinating patient care based on our nursing model. You assess patients, plan personalized care, and evaluate responses to health issues. You keep patients safe by understanding their needs and the healthcare setting for smoother transitions. You delegate interventions to team members based on guidelines, patient condition, and team abilities. Your professionalism and experience help you make important recommendations that impact patient outcomes.

Essential Functions of the Role

• Adapt nursing care to the unique needs, conditions, and preferences of patients across different acute care settings.

• Adapt quickly to different units, workflows, patient populations, and care teams.
• Prioritize and manage multiple patient care needs while maintaining safety and quality.
• Delegate tasks appropriately based on patient condition, staff competency, and established guidelines.
• Recognize changes in patient condition and communicate concerns promptly to the appropriate members of the healthcare team.
• Utilize available resources effectively and seek assistance when needed.
• Maintain flexibility and professionalism when responding to changing staffing and patient care needs.

Qualifications

• You should have graduated from an accredited program in nursing or have two years of relevant work experience.
• The main area of study in your education should be nursing.
• (2) Two years of experience in nursing is required.
• You need to be a registered nurse.
• Have basic life support (BLS) certification or get it within 30 days of starting.
