Senior Director, International Supply Chain Policy
$150k - $200kNatl Foreign Trade Councl Inc
Summary The National Foreign Trade Council (NFTC) seeks a Senior Director for International Supply Chain Policy to serve as its lead expert and advocate on global supply chain, customs and trade facilitation policy and regulatory issues, and the effects of broader trade policies on members' supply chain decisions. This is a Full-Time, Exempt position based in Washington, DC, and reports to the Vice President for Global Trade Policy. About the National Foreign Trade Council The NFTC is a recognized leader in advancing the interests of U.S. companies in international commerce. For over 100 years, we have provided our members with strategic advice and advocacy to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the global economy. Today, NFTC is a thought leader and principal interlocutor between businesses and policymakers in areas ranging from international trade agreements and tax treaties to tariffs, supply chain flows, digital trade policies and export controls. We serve as a resource and advocate for our members' interests with the U.S. Executive Branch and Congress and globally through organizations including the OECD, WTO, and United Nations. We engage the media, think tanks and other interest groups to shape public conversations about the role of international tax, trade, supply chain and national security policies in contributing to U.S. economic growth and job creation. We conduct regular meetings and briefings, provide in-depth analysis and serve as a nimble and effective forum for companies to tackle critical and complex issues together. The NFTC maintains an affiliated, independent 501(c)(3) educational organization, the NFTC Foundation, which conducts educational efforts in support of an open, rules-based global economy. The NFTC Foundation houses the Global Innovation Forum, an educational effort to engage a network of small businesses, nonprofit leaders and government officials to explore the role of trade policies and programs in fostering resilience and access to the global economy. What You Will Do Lead NFTC’s engagement on international supply chain policies In consultation with member companies and the NFTC’s team, set the strategic direction and advance an advocacy agenda to support the resilience, efficiency, and security of global supply chains. Identify and promote members’ international supply chain priorities, including customs and trade facilitation policies, feasible implementation of fast-moving trade actions, tariff collection and refunds, rules of origin, government procurement practices, regulations and reporting requirements based on supply chain transparency, such as counterfeiting, illicit trade, product safety, human and labor rights policies, and sustainability, and e-commerce marketplace rules. Work collaboratively with NFTC’s team on shared priority issues across workstreams including our approach to industrial policies, trade agreement provisions, and the nexus between supply chain policies and use of national security authorities to impose tariffs and other trade remedies. Promote best practices and the use of technology, including digital signatures, e-filing, and emerging technologies like AI, quantum computing, and advanced robotics, to support efficient supply chain flows. Serve as a trusted advisor, expert and convener on international supply chain policies Act as a trusted advisor and nimble and effective advocate on supply chain and trade policy issues for NFTC members, informing them of major policy developments in the United States and key foreign jurisdictions and international forums. Represent the NFTC at private roundtables, public events, multilateral organizations, industry meetings, hearings, and in the press. Foster opportunities for education and advocacy on international supply chain issues through regular private meetings with members and government officials, coalition-building, public events, and media outreach. Draft written products, including NFTC policy goals, position papers, advocacy letters, responses to requests for public comments, op-eds, and reports, to advance understanding of key priorities. Strengthen relationships with key officials and stakeholders on supply chain issues Cultivate and maintain relationships with officials from relevant congressional committees, the White House, the Office of the United States Trade Representative, U.S. Customs and Border Protection, the Departments of Commerce, Homeland Security and State, and foreign jurisdictions. Identify opportunities to participate in relevant government advisory committees and workstreams. Engage with select international and regional organizations including the World Trade Organization, World Customs Organization, Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum, Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development and relevant UN agencies to help shape international supply chain policies. Strengthen relationships with businesses, other associations and other key business community stakeholders. Work collaboratively with NFTC’s team to identify and recruit new member companies. Qualifications 8+ years of experience working in or with Congress, the Executive Branch, regulatory agencies, the business community and/or international organizations on international supply chain, trade and/or customs policies. A deep professional network and a proven ability to build trusted relationships and collaborate effectively with the Executive Branch, Congress, businesses and international organizations on regulatory and legislative issues and international agreements. Familiarity with a wide range of international supply chain, customs and trade issues and the technical ability to evaluate and communicate the impact of complex policy, legislative, and regulatory changes on a variety of industries. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including experience writing public comments, testimony, policy briefs, and thought pieces for publication and serving as a source for media. Experience developing, coordinating, and running educational or advocacy programs and initiatives, and effectively managing multiple projects and campaigns. Demonstrated organizational skills, including attention to detail, ability to juggle multiple tasks, agility in managing changing priorities, and creating and implementing standard processes and procedures that create efficiencies. Experience working in an entrepreneurial environment, including the ability to work collaboratively as a team but also independently, meeting and exceeding expectations, and clearly communicating results. The ability to travel for business purposes up to 10% of the time. A law degree or post-graduate degree in law, business, international affairs, economics, or a related field is preferred.
