Machining Setup Technician

1st Shift Pay $28.00 - $35.00 hourly Phoenix, AZ 85027

Position Summary

The Machining Setup Technician is responsible for preparing CNC equipment for production by setting up machines, tooling, fixtures, and programs to ensure safe, accurate, and efficient manufacturing. This role serves as a technical resource for production machinists, ensuring all jobs are properly configured and meet engineering specifications, quality standards, and customer requirements before production begins.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up CNC machines by installing tooling, fixtures, work-holding devices, and machine offsets according to setup documentation.
• Load, verify, and test CNC programs to ensure equipment is production-ready before releasing jobs to operators.
• Machine and inspect first-article parts, making adjustments as needed to achieve dimensional accuracy.
• Confirm all required tooling, gauges, cutting tools, and materials are available prior to production.
• Diagnose and resolve setup, tooling, fixture, and machining issues to reduce downtime and maintain production schedules.
• Provide technical support to machinists during machine startups, changeovers, and production runs.
• Perform tool replacements, offset adjustments, and setup modifications as needed throughout production.
• Collaborate with Engineering, Quality, and Production teams to troubleshoot manufacturing issues and improve setup processes.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment while following all company safety and quality procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing operations.

Qualifications

• CNC machining and machine setup experience.
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, GD&T, and manufacturing documentation.
• Strong knowledge of CNC controls, cutting tools, work-holding systems, and machining processes.
• Experience using precision measuring instruments, including calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
• Excellent mechanical aptitude, troubleshooting skills, and attention to detail.
• Experience in an AS9100 or other regulated manufacturing environment is preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational machining education is a plus.

Responsibilities & Authority

• Perform in-process inspections on active production parts.
• Review and sign off completed work on manufacturing routers.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to perform detailed visual inspections.
• Lift up to 50 lbs.
• Stand for extended periods throughout the workday.
