Our mission is guided by our Strategic Principles and has three critical components; patient care, education and research that together enhance our contribution to society.ResponsibilitiesProvide expert nursing care to gastroenterology patients in the outpatient clinics.Provide telephone triage, patient teaching, direct patient care including injections, documentation with follow-up and coordination with ancillary services and related departments.Provide functional supervision to allied health staff.Assist with patient flow as necessary and appropriate.Work with licensed providers to develop and carry out clinical standards of care for various patient diagnoses.Participate as a professional member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.Teach patients and families pertinent information regarding the patient condition and treatment plans.Coordinate infusion therapies.Assist in orientation of team members as appropriate, including observation and participation of patient care activities.Actively participate and support performance improvement activities related to self, clinic, department, and institutional goals and objectives.Take live patient calls associated with Nurse Answer line.Other responsibilities as assigned.ExpectationsDemonstrated ability of effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication with internal and external customers.Demonstrated adaptability to changing needs and priorities on clinic, department, and institutional goals/objectives.Demonstrated accountability and dependability, e.g., completion of work, mandatories, goal setting within established timelines.Excellent attendance record as evidenced by references and evaluations.Demonstrated ability to prioritize and solve problems effectively and efficiently.Demonstrated ability to seek constructive approaches to resolving workplace issues.Demonstrated willingness to support and participate in change based on unit, department, and institutional goals and objectives.Required QualificationsCurrent license to practice nursing in the State of Michigan (RN).Three (3) years, within the last five years of RN experience caring for the adult gastroenterology or Hepatology patient population.Three (3) years within the last five years as a registered nurse, caring for adults with acute or chronic conditions in an ambulatory care or GI/Hepatology procedural setting.Proficiency with MiChart management and documentation in electronic health record, e.g., Epic as indicated by interviews, references, and or performance evaluation in past 3 out of 5 years RN experience.Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills as evidence by resume, annual evaluations, and references.Desired Qualifications1 year, within the last five years, caring for the hepatology patient population.Ambulatory Care Experience with telephone triage/symptom management within the last two (2) years.BSNWhy Join Michigan Medicine?Michigan Medicine is one of the largest health care complexes in the world and has been the site of many groundbreaking medical and technological advancements since the opening of the U-M Medical School in 1850.
