Assistant Maintenance Manager

Position Summary The Assistant Maintenance Leader is responsible for providing leadership within the Maintenance Department in the Baking facility, ensuring the highest standards of safety, quality, and sanitation. This role supports the Maintenance Department Leader through assisting to lead the team of mechanics, overseeing mid‑size capital projects, and ensuring smooth operations of preventative maintenance programming. Key Job Responsibilities Execute the Bakery’s preventive and predictive maintenance programs to ensure reliable operational performance of bakery equipment and processes. Plan, organize, direct, and control the work performed by Mechanics utilizing the plant’s PM program. Provide coverage in the absence of the Maintenance Department Leader and technical support for controls, electrical, and mechanical systems and equipment. Manage and improve all components and software required to efficiently operate a primarily automated manufacturing line. Monitor Maintenance Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) and PM system reports, using these reports to initiate remedial actions to improve maintenance performance. Inspect completed work for conformance to specifications and standards, ensure compliance with governmental requirements (OSHA, EPA, FDA), and verify completion of maintenance procedures in line with company policies. Requisition tools, equipment, and supplies necessary for maintenance activities. Ensure maintenance personnel are trained on Lock‑Out/Tag‑Out, Confined Space, Hazard Material Handling, and Personal Protective Equipment. Perform tasks that require standing for long periods, climbing, reaching above shoulders, walking, lifting, grasping, kneeling, bending, and twisting. Must ascend and descend building stairways, ladders, and ramps. Undertake special assignments on a case‑by‑case basis and perform all other related tasks, including assisting and training other associates as required by supervision. Set the Standard : Support the Maintenance Department Leader in universal achievement of maintenance standards and practices, equipment reliability, safety, quality, environmental compliance, and productivity for the bakery location. Drive Our Culture : Build a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, providing consistent leadership in working with and managing the mechanics team while emphasizing teamwork and collaboration that leads to high‑quality maintenance practices, high associate engagement, and successful operational results. Be a Change Leader : Drive the realization of Maintenance Excellence efforts across our manufacturing facilities and processes. Utilize strong decision‑making skills and flexibility to drive sustainable operational initiatives and process improvement activities. Develop Our Talent : Support and effectively develop individuals to assume greater levels of responsibility and personal contribution. Education and Work History High School diploma or equivalent. Technical or BA degree in a related field or AIB Maintenance Correspondence Course a plus. Minimum 3‑5 years of supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably in the food industry. Strong communication, leadership, and team‑building skills, with a strong PLC knowledge base being a plus. Experience in electrical circuitry, bread and roll production equipment repair, refrigeration, and fuel‑burning equipment is essential. Must be computer literate and have a proven ability to build, develop, and lead teams. Ability to identify various parts and read mechanical and electrical drawings, instructions, gauges, meters, etc. Physical Demands The physical and mental demands described in each job posting are representative of those that must be met by an associate to successfully perform the essential functions of each job.
