Definition

Definition: Under general supervision of the Exceptional Education Director, the Speech and Language Pathologist provides support for teachers for children with disabilities.

Primary Job Functions: Primary functions may include the following tasks, knowledge, abilities, skills, and other characteristics. This list of tasks is ILLUSTRATIVE ONLY and is not intended to be a comprehensive listing of tasks performed by all positions within this classification.

Examples of Tasks

Job Duties
-Assist and guide teachers and staffing observing, describing, and referring suspected and identified speech impairments.
-Be respectful and open to the cultural differences of all families.
-Assists in screening, evaluating, and recommending placement of children who are referred to the program.
-Assists with hearing screening as needed.
-Provides appropriate annual goals and benchmarks for each eligible child's IEP.
-Collaborates with classroom teachers and other staff members to implement needed services into the child's daily activities.
-Maintains current records on each qualifying child in the program.
-Maintains lists of referred, screened and eligible students.
-Conducts parent-staff conferences to explain relevant individual evaluative findings, provide recommendations to parents and service providers.
-Provides professional consultation and advice on all matters related to speech and language deficits and the means by which correction or rehabilitation may occur.
-Attends staff meetings and in-service training.
-Provides parent training's concerning current speech and language issues.
-Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics

Knowledge of:
-The history, culture, traditions, and customs of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community
-Arizona State and Federal Regulations for Special Education
-How to provide a developmentally appropriate Speech and Language program for Grades K-6 Principles, methods, practices, and techniques for working with young children

Skilled in:
-Computer programs including MS Office Suite and Internet usage
-Oral and written communication/interpersonal skills
-Maintaining current records on all identified children served in the program

Ability to:
-Provide appropriate speech and language program utilizing classroom therapy integration and the team/collaborative intervention model
-Maintain records of student's needs
-Maintain a confidential, private, professional attitude in working with families and staff
-Embrace change and challenges in a positive and professional manner

Minimum Qualifications

Education and experience: Master's Degree from accredited college or university, Certificate of Clinical Competence, License as a Speech Language Pathologist in the state of Arizona. Minimum of one (1) year of experience as a Speech/Language Pathologist. School experience preferred.

Driving Requirement: This job description does not require the incumbent to drive; however, any employee who chooses or is asked to drive any vehicle for work related community business must receive written annual authorization to do so. For clarification, work related community business includes driving to and from SRPMIC government sites and buildings.

Equivalency: Any equivalent combination of education and/or experience that would allow the candidate to satisfactorily perform the duties of this position, will be considered.

Underfill Eligibility: An enrolled Community Member whom closely qualifies for the minimum qualifications for a position may be considered for employment under SRPMIC Policy 2-19, Underfill.

Special Requirements
Terms of Employment: This position is treated as a full-time exempt position scheduled for 40 hours per week.

Must be able to pass a Pre-Employment Drug Test and extensive Fingerprint and Background Check. Employee is Subject to Random Drug Testing and completion of a Background Check every five (5) years.

As a self-funded plan, SRPMIC directly covers the cost of medical, pharmacy, dental, and vision services for all participants.

Dental : Enjoy nationwide access to the Humana Dental PPO/Traditional Preferred network, offering flexibility and choice in selecting dental care providers.

Vision : Coverage is provided through Davis Vision, including eye exams, lenses, frames, and contact lenses. Members also benefit from discounted rates on additional eyewear and services.

Life Insurance : All eligible employees are automatically enrolled in a fully paid basic term life insurance policy with a matching accidental death benefit.

Retirement Plans

SRPMIC supports your long-term financial goals through multiple retirement plan options:

401(k) and Roth Plans : Eligible employees can participate in both pre-tax and post-tax retirement savings plans. SRPMIC contributes 5% of your compensation to the pre-tax 401(k) and matches up to 3% of your salary deferral contributions.

Public Safety Personnel Retirement System (PSPRS): Available to eligible certified police officers and firefighters.

Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS): Available to Salt River School educators.

Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA): A retiree HRA with Health Equity, which is a tax-advantaged employer-funded account that retired employees (Age 55+) can use for qualified medical expenses, including some premiums, and out-of-pocket expenses such as copays and deductibles.


Paid Leave & Holidays

Annual & Sick Leave: Employees accrue separate balances for sick and annual leave each pay period. Sick leave may be used for personal or family illness and medical appointments, while annual leave covers vacation or personal time.

Holidays: SRPMIC observes 15 paid holidays each year, including two discretionary holidays and one day of birthday leave.
