Maintenance Diver - Sea Life Park PT/On-Call

Under the direction of the Dive Safety Officer and Assistant Curator of Reef Life, the Maintenance Diver is responsible for performing routine and specialized underwater maintenance in aquarium habitats. This role ensures the cleanliness, safety, and operational integrity of exhibits while supporting animal health and maintaining compliance with dive safety standards. Responsibilities Perform underwater cleaning and maintenance of aquarium exhibits: hand cleaning acrylic viewing panels, vacuuming substrate, scrubbing rocks manually or using hydraulic scrubbers. Work safely in habitats containing free‑swimming marine animals, including sharks and fish. Maintain cleanliness and proper care of locker rooms, dive gear, and related equipment. Follow all equipment disinfection and sanitation procedures. Report to all scheduled dive shifts on time and prepared. Adhere to all dive program policies, procedures, and safety protocols. Maintain situational awareness while working on dive decks and underwater. Participate in required annual training and recertification programs. Immediately notify Dive Operations leadership of any physical or mental condition that may affect dive fitness. Support overall exhibit quality, safety, and operational standards. Qualifications Rescue‑level SCUBA certification from a recognized agency such as PADI, NAUI, or SSI. Minimum of 50 logged dives, with at least 6 dives completed within the past 12 months. Minimum age of 18 years and ability to commit to at least 2 scheduled dive shifts per week. Current certifications in CPR/AED (health‑care provider level preferred) and First Aid/Oxygen Provider knowledge. Ability to pass confined‑water swim and SCUBA skills evaluation and maintain required dive medical clearance. Ability to rescue and assist divers in emergency situations. Ability to work effectively in a team environment. Comfort working in water temperatures ranging from 70F to 82F. Strong situational awareness and safety mindset. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to follow technical, safety, and operational procedures. Language skills: read and interpret safety rules, operating procedures, and technical manuals; write routine reports and communicate effectively with supervisors and teammates. Physical Demands Ability to stand, walk, sit, and use hands and arms frequently; lift up to 75 pounds; perform repetitive motions up to 50% of the work time; swim and perform physically demanding underwater tasks; pass dive medical evaluation and swim test. Work Environment Frequent exposure to water and aquatic environments; work performed underwater, on dive decks, and in equipment areas; interaction with live marine animals; exposure to outdoor weather conditions.
