The Work You Will Do:

The Compliance and Governance Coordinator helps play a vital role in strengthening the agency’s HR operations by ensuring they are consistent, compliant, and aligned with state and federal requirements as well as agency policies and strategic goals. This position is part of the compliance and governance team, drives quality assurance and continuous improvement across key HR functions, that works on cross-functional initiatives that reduce risk, improve workforce effectiveness, and support the agency’s long-term operational success.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

This position provides critical support to the Human Resources (HR) Team, reporting to the Compliance and Governance Manager. It ensures consistent and compliant administration of HR policies and procedures across the department, with a focus on classification, recruitment and selection, quality assurance of processes and documentation standards, and legal compliance.

Conducts internal audits, quality assurance reviews, and HR processes to include, but are not limited to, classification and compensation, benefits administration, employee relations, recruitment and selection, performance and talent management, unemployment and workers’ compensation, retirement, attendance and leave, payroll, and records management. Generates reports to verify data integrity in the People First system. Proposes and manages annual QAR schedules and coordinates district-level reviews as needed.

Researches, interprets, and monitors HR laws and guidelines to identify potential impacts, supporting cross-functional HR teams with analysis, recommendations, and implementation. Reviews and ensures consistent application of HR policies and procedures. Conducts internal audits and process reviews to guarantee timely completion of compliance tasks.

Supports compliance reporting, partners cross-functionally for accurate and timely submissions, and maintains precise compliance documentation in accordance with state retention schedules.

Serves as a primary point of contact for employees, providing HR policy advice, system support, and general inquiries.

Assist the broader HR team across a wide range of functions, including benefits, attendance and leave, recruitment and onboarding, record-keeping and data integrity, and minor disciplinary matters, as needed.

Assist with overseeing key HR initiatives, managing all phases from planning to completion - conducting research, coordinating implementation, tracking progress, and maintaining comprehensive documentation with a strong focus on detail.

The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of:

• Applicable federal employment laws.
• State of Florida's statutes and rules pertaining to state employment.
• State of Florida Human Resource rules and regulations.

Skills in:

• Making presentations.
• Identifying and documenting human resource performance and conduct deficiencies.
• Understanding, applying and interpreting applicable rules, policies, regulations and procedures relating to opertational and management activities.

Ability to:

• Problem solve and make recommendations under stressful conditions.
• Handle multiple tasks.
• Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
• Communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.
• Access, input and retrieve information from a computer database.
• Use and create excel and word documents.

Licensure/Registration/Certification Requirements:

• Must obtain CJIS certification prior to receiving criminal history records information, in any form.

• This position requires a Level II background check.
• Occasional travel is required.
