Starting Date: Immediately Job Description Job Title: Lead Speech‑Language Pathologist Grade Level/Terms of Employment: Certified Teacher’s Salary, 12‑month contract 5% Lead Stipend FLSA Status: Exempt Work Location: Exceptional Education Immediate Supervisor: Senior Speech‑Language Pathologist General Description: The Lead Speech‑Language Pathologist (SLP) holds a CCC‑SLP issued by the American Speech‑Language and Hearing Association, and a valid Speech‑Language Pathology license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology, Speech‑Language Pathology. The Lead SLP serves the division as a member of school‑based teams and maintains a caseload of students who require speech and language services. In addition, the Lead SLP provides leadership to a designated group of Speech‑Language Pathologists (SLPs) to ensure a high quality of services, with evaluations and service delivery options aligned with Virginia Public School guidelines. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Participate as a member of the Child Find team and the school‑based eligibility/IEP teams. Conduct evaluations using formal and informal diagnostic measures and provide quality data analysis to diagnose specific speech‑language impairments across all grade levels. Develop individualized educational programs (IEPs) for identified students and provide appropriate therapeutic programs to meet individual needs. Ensure students receive culturally sensitive evaluations and services, demonstrating appreciation for diversity in our schools. Participate in planning and development of division/department‑level training opportunities and meetings; serve on panels to increase awareness of Speech‑Language Pathology. Maintain accurate and complete documentation of student services and report progress timely, as required by law, School Board policies, and RPS regulations; mentor a group of SLPs to ensure timely documentation. Serve as liaison between home, school, and community regarding speech‑language development; work closely with audiologist and nursing team to plan hearing screenings. Engage appropriate community agencies and community‑based Speech‑Language Pathology providers in collaborative arrangements to address student needs. Demonstrate evidence‑based practices by participating in professional organizations, continuing education, and sharing literature with peers and colleagues. Provide consultation, education, and training to teachers, parents, and staff on service delivery for students with communication impairments. Adhere to ethical standards, codes of the profession, and the rules, regulations, and laws governing Special Education programs. Support the Senior Speech‑Language Pathologist with: Managing a designated cohort of SLPs to monitor service delivery and adherence to ASHA and VDOE guidelines. Providing Clinical Fellowship Year (CFY) supervision for new graduates. Serving on the interview panel for candidates applying for SLP positions with RPS. Assisting with coordinating mandated hearing screenings and collaborating with nursing services and audiologist. Using VA IEP Online for troubleshooting, adding, and removing students from caseloads; monitoring equitable distribution of students. Maintaining inventory, ordering, reviewing, and distributing diagnostic/therapy materials. Planning and monitoring the “Speech Language Pathologists Orientation Series” and documenting related data. Attending weekly check‑in meetings with the Sr. Speech‑Language Pathologist. Performing other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Master’s degree or greater in Speech‑Language Pathology from an accredited institution and a current license issued by the Virginia Board of Audiology and Speech‑Language Pathology. Ability to communicate and work collaboratively with diverse groups in schools and the community, including administrators, teachers, parents, and other partners. Knowledge of communication sciences, including acoustics, physiological processes of speech, language, hearing, and swallowing. Understanding of current trends related to evaluation, instruction, and service delivery, including the organization and administration of a public school speech/language pathology program. Ability to plan and provide both in‑person and virtual services for persons with speech‑language disorders. Strong time‑management and prioritization skills, with the ability to work independently and demonstrate excellent organizational, oral, and written communication abilities. Capacity to manage Speech‑Language Pathology caseloads while fulfilling Lead SLP duties.
