NPD CMM EngineerSturm, Ruger & Co., Inc. is seeking a CMM Engineer for New Product Development (NPD) supporting all new program requirements. This position will provide primary programming and inspection, CMM training and GD&T guidance. The scope of the position will support product development, manufacturing process design development, as well as help establish gaging methods and metrology needs. In addition, the role will include responsibilities for supporting NPD PPAP activity, updates and modifications to existing parts, processes and new programs.The ideal candidate will have a higher level of knowledge and experience, and would take on a mentoring role to less experienced engineers to develop the team and support business needs.Ruger’s manufacturing philosophy is integrated CNC single piece flow value streams, much like the automotive manufacturing industry. Work is performed in a machining and assembly plant environment, where a considerable amount of creativity and initiative is exercised with a high level of independent judgment.Position SummaryMentor and develop Product and Manufacturing Engineers with deep understanding of GD&T and appropriate application of specification.Maintain expertise in metrology technologies and industry best practices.Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.Prioritize your time resources aligning to projects in support of NPD business objectives.Promote adherence to company policies, safety requirements, and engineering standards.Provide Key GDT support and guidance across Engineering and Operations. Lead the development of CMM (Hexagon, AMES, Equator) and Smart Scope (Keyence IM & VR) Programs for point of use inspection throughout the development of Ruger’s design and launch process for components and assemblies.Drive CMM Standards in support of Product Development Requirements leading to long-term metrology standards for Ruger.Assist Product Development and Manufacturing Development with program development and inspection results to drive short- and long-term capability in processes – help resolve critical issues in support of FMEA alignment.Support statistical analysis, process capability studies, and root cause investigations.Perform complete inspection of manufactured or supplier purchased parts as required for all critical dimensions and characteristics.Work collaboratively with Quality to complete First Article Inspection as required for new or modified components to confirm product and process design requirements.Develop and establish data analytics for all CMM’s and Equators utilizing DataPage+, QDAS, Minitab or Excel.Ideal Candidate ProfileKnowledge of quality systems and gauging methods utilizing GD&T to assure gage control mimics design expectations through fundamental work holding and processing to create a smooth transition from Raw-to-Final product.Supports with strong organizational and problem solving/analysis skills utilizing 5 why / 8D / 6-Sigma.Demonstrated communication proficiency with all levels of the organization.Ability to gather, analyze and provide clear summarized measurement data in support of program needs.Must demonstrate technical capacity, thoroughness, and good time management skills.Ability to teach and share experiences with teams and leadership through effective communication.A team player who knows how to lead, follow and sometimes just listen.Must be capable of working independently with little supervision.Required Education and ExperienceFour-year Engineering Degree: Manufacturing, Mechanical, Industrial preferred or significant job experience in lieu of a degreeMinimum of 5 years experience in CMM programming using PC-DMIS / Modus SoftwareStrong data management computer skills – Excel and Minitab experience a plusAdvanced knowledge of metrology instruments and methods: Surface Plate to CMM capability utilizing height stands, calipers, micrometers, comparators, etc.Strong understanding of Geometric Dimensional Tolerancing and BlueprintsStrong knowledge of CAD modelingSignificant Experience in Microsoft Office SuitePreferred Education and ExperienceASQ Certification a plus – Layout / CQE / etc.5+ years of CNC metal removal manufacturing and quality inspection backgroundHeat Treat background a plusAdditional RequirementsMust be able to successfully pass a drug and background screen.SalaryDepending on Experience – Please include your salary requirements with your resume.Benefits to becoming a member of our team:Competitive compensation package including competitive salary, profit sharing and bonus (bonus and profit sharing based on company performance)Health benefits including medical, dental, and visionLife and Retirement benefits including 401k match, discretionary supplemental 401k contribution, basic and supplemental life options, as well as short- and long-term disability plansPaid Time Off (PTO)Relocation Assistance for the right candidateCasual work environmentSummaryLocation: Mayodan, NCType: Full time
