Description

American Traveler is seeking an experienced RN for a Med/Surg PCU/Tele position on a Neuro Trauma unit at a Level II Trauma facility, requiring at least 2 years of MS, PCU, or ICU experience and trach/vent familiarity.

• Work in a 28-bed Med/Surg PCU/Tele Neuro Trauma stepdown unit at a Level II Trauma, acute care hospital
• Patient population includes neuro-focused cases such as strokes, seizures, Guillain-Barré, myasthenia gravis, spinal injuries, thrombectomies, TNK/TPA (24 hours post), endovascular and AMS patients, as well as trauma/ortho cases including hematomas, bleeds, falls on anticoagulants, and MVA/farm accidents
• Nurse-to-patient ratios: 1:4–5 on days, 1:5–6 on nights (dependent on acuity); nurse aide support ratios are 1:9 on days and 1:12 on nights
• RNs are required to titrate drips including Heparin, Nitroglycerin, Diltiazem, Amiodarone, 3% saline, and Insulin
• RT equipment on the unit includes vents, trachs, CPAP, BiPAP, Vapotherm, and EtCO2
• Telemetry monitoring is managed via a central monitor located in a separate area
• Charting is performed in Cerner (transitioning to Epic)
• 12-hour day shifts, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM
• Every other weekend rotation (Friday, Saturday, Sunday)
• Holiday coverage required — typically 2–3 holidays in winter, otherwise every other holiday
• Self-scheduling with manager balancing; schedule opens 6 weeks in advance
• No on-call or standby requirement
• Floating required to sister MS units covering 6 specialties: mixed care, cardiac, general, MS ortho, and heme/onc

Requirements

• Active WI RN license or Compact RN license (must be active by start date)
• Current BLS (AHA) and NIHSS certifications required
• Minimum 2 years of experience in MS, PCU, or ICU settings
• Experience in the relevant setting must be within the last 1 year
• Drip titration experience required
• Trach and vent experience strongly preferred; candidates open to training on vents will be considered
• Two professional references required: 1 supervisor reference from within the last 12 months of relevant experience, and 1 peer or supervisor reference from the position's specialty within the last 3 years

Additional Information

• Orientation consists of 1 general shift and 1 shift with a preceptor
• Candidates residing within 80 miles of the facility are considered local and may be subject to a reduced rate
• Former permanent staff of this facility must have an end date at least 6 months prior to their application date, and hospital approval is required
• Any solid color scrubs are acceptable
