Associate Underwriter

The Associate Underwriter applies underwriting principles for groups of various sizes in the evaluation of risk for new and renewed groups.

Job Essentials

• Applies underwriting principles for groups of various sizes in the evaluation of risk for new and renewed groups.
• Assesses clients needs and matches appropriate products, rates and benefits
• Defines population and computes and negotiates rates.
• Reviews submitted proposal material for completeness and request missing information.
• Inputs census information for generation of manual rates, submits rates, and prepares proposal information.
• Creates proposals in a timely manner accurately reflecting rates and plan designs. Ensures consistency of proposal.
• Assembles and reviews past claims experience on existing groups in order to determine the appropriate renewal rates and plans to offer.
• Approves exceptions.
• Completes underwriting analysis and rate/plan design on an assigned block of business.
• Interfaces with the internal sales team as well as brokers and clients.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree and one year of experience as an underwriting analyst. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.

• Bachelor's degree plus three years of health care experience
• Demonstrated beginner skills with word processing and spreadsheets.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Mathematics, Accounting, Statistics, or business related field. Education must be obtained through an accredited institution. Degree will be verified.
• Health plans experience.

• SQL or visual basic experience.
• SH only Manual dexterity, seeing.

The hourly range for this position is listed below. Actual hourly rate dependent upon experience.

$27.65 - $43.55
