DIGITAL AUDIO DESIGN AND COMPOSITION TEACHING ARTIST ELEMENTARY & MIDDLE SCHOOL

Schedule: Flexible part‑time after‑school schedule during the school year (approximately 38 weeks). Teaching hours are between 3:30–6:00 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, and 2:00–6:00 p.m. on Wednesdays. Additional teaching opportunities may be available through BAMP summer programming. Compensation: $40–$45/hr, depending on experience. ABOUT BAMP

Bay Area Music Project (BAMP) is an El Sistema‑inspired after‑school music program that supports the social‑emotional and academic growth of children in under‑resourced communities through high‑quality music instruction, nutritious snacks, and homework support. Our staff embraces both the social and musical mission of our work, nurturing every child as both an individual and a musician.

JOB SUMMARY

The Digital Audio Production Teaching Artist inspires students in grades 3–8 to express themselves through songwriting, recording, and digital music production. Using industry‑standard tools such as Ableton Live, Soundtrap, MIDI controllers, and recording equipment, this role develops students’ technical, creative, and collaborative skills while introducing them to careers in music production, audio engineering, recording, live sound, and related creative industries. Through project‑based learning, mentorship, and real‑world experiences, the Teaching Artist helps students build portfolios and explore college, career, and workforce pathways in music and audio technology.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Teach engaging classes in digital music production, songwriting, recording, and beat‑making for students ages 9–14. Guide students in using Ableton Live, Soundtrap, MIDI keyboards, and recording equipment. Mentor students through collaborative recording projects, performances, and portfolio development. Collaborate with the Music Director and Teaching Artists to implement curriculum and integrate music technology into performances. Build positive relationships with students, families, school staff, and colleagues. Maintain student attendance, communicate with staff and families, and complete administrative responsibilities in a timely manner. Attend staff meetings, planning sessions, professional development, performances, field trips, and special events as needed.

REQUIREMENTS

Must be at least 18 years of age. Minimum one year of experience teaching music production or related music technology. Must successfully pass Live Scan fingerprinting and provide proof of a negative TB test. Must be authorized to work in the United States.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Pay Range: $40–$45/hr, depending on experience. Jury Duty Leave (up to two weeks). Health & Future: Medical and Dental Insurance available at 20+ hr/week. 401(k) retirement (opt‑in, unmatched)

WORKPLACE DEMANDS

Work Hours – Part‑time, hourly, with some responsibilities on weekends and/or evenings, depending on the program’s concert calendar Location – Exposed to changing conditions in indoor, outdoor, and virtual settings – including in school campuses, classrooms, libraries, offices, venues, parks, and other community spaces Cleanliness & Odors – Clean to moderately clean; Occasionally works with children with varying access to hygiene support Social – Communicates with youth and adults in one‑on‑one, small groups, and large groups.
