Job Description

The R&D Formulation Technician participates in the development and optimization of new pharmaceutical products for the animal health market by collaborating closely with formulation scientists and technicians. This role prepares and manufactures laboratory-scale and R&D batches, evaluates critical physical parameters of formulations, and supports scale-up activities using commercial manufacturing equipment. The technician ensures strict adherence to Good Documentation Practices and Good Manufacturing Practices where applicable, while maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant formulation environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with formulation scientists and technicians to support the development of new pharmaceutical products for the animal health market.

• Weigh samples and ingredients accurately and prepare laboratory-scale batches to evaluate initial stability of formulations.

• Perform detailed evaluation of physical parameters critical to the formula, including hardness, friability, texture, and dimensional testing, and document and report results clearly.

• Follow Good Documentation Practices (cGDP) in all activities and Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP) when applicable to ensure compliance with regulatory and quality standards.

• Participate in the review of relevant site procedures to confirm they reflect current practices and support continuous improvement.

• Assist in planning and production of R&D batches using commercial-scale manufacturing equipment and support packaging and shipping of samples for analysis.

• Maintain, clean, and organize the formulation area, including performing full sanitation of equipment and formulation suites to uphold cleanliness and safety standards.

• Carry out facility management responsibilities such as maintaining equipment logs, following calibration and maintenance schedules, and managing inventory of R&D materials and ingredients.

• Apply mechanical aptitude and problem-solving abilities to troubleshoot basic equipment or process issues and support process optimization.

• Use basic computer skills to work within various systems and interfaces for documentation, data entry, and reporting.

• Handle lifting tasks of up to 30 pounds as needed for materials, equipment components, and supplies.

• Collaborate effectively within a small R&D team, sharing workload and supporting colleagues to meet project timelines and generate results.

Essential Skills

• 3+ years of GMP manufacturing experience with oral solid dose (OSD) and tablet manufacturing processes.

• Demonstrated experience working in environments that follow Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP).

• Strong mechanical aptitude and practical problem-solving abilities in an industrial or pilot plant setting.

• Background in process optimization and working with industrial equipment.

• Foundation in physical chemistry and an understanding of pharmaceutical sciences.

• Ability to perform and interpret physical testing such as hardness, friability, texture, and dimensional measurements.

• Ability to follow Good Documentation Practices (cGDP) and maintain accurate, clear records.

• Basic computer knowledge and ability to work within various systems and interfaces.

• Capability to lift up to 30 pounds safely and repeatedly as part of daily activities.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• AS or BS degree in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering preferred.

• Experience with oral solid dose coating processes preferred.

• Packaging experience in a pharmaceutical or related environment preferred.

• Experience working in an R&D environment or pilot plant is preferred.

• Familiarity with Google Workspace platform is a plus.

• Experience working with a mix of GMP and non-GMP areas is beneficial.

• Comfort working in both industrial and traditional laboratory environments.

• Strong teamwork and collaboration skills, with the ability to work closely with scientists and technicians.

Work Environment

This role is based in an R&D building with several rooms equipped for research and scale-up activities, including both GMP and non-GMP areas. The standard shift is Monday through Friday, typically 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, with flexibility for variations such as a 7:30 or 8:00 AM start time. Occasional extended hours may be expected for formulation runs.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of BRIDGETON, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $33.00/hr.
