Youth Leadership Specialist

Position Title : Youth Leadership Specialist-- Public Health Advocate Reports To : Executive Director Hours : Part-time (20 hours/week), non-exempt. Flexible schedule that includes occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight travel. This position is currently funded for approximately 18 months, with the possibility of extension or increased hours based on future grant funding. Compensation : $20.00–$22.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience. Work Location : This is an in‑person position based in La Mesa, California. Regular travel throughout San Diego County is required. Remote work is not available except for occasional approved work assignments. About the Position This position is ideal for someone who is passionate about public health, youth leadership, and community engagement and is looking to grow their career in the nonprofit sector. The Youth Specialist will engage and mentor youth while supporting CASA's community‑based public health initiatives throughout San Diego County. The position works closely with other CASA staff and community partners to implement youth leadership programs and outreach activities. Responsibilities Develop an annual youth leadership curriculum and weekly meeting agendas. Recruit, engage, and mentor youth participants. Coordinate and facilitate weekly youth meetings. Support youth‑led advocacy, community engagement, and leadership activities. Coordinate youth participation in conferences, trainings, presentations, and community events. Manage youth communications and social media efforts. Collect and maintain participation records, surveys, and program evaluation data. Support CASA's Public Health Initiatives Assist with community outreach, education, and public health initiatives. Represent CASA at community meetings, outreach events, and partner activities. Build and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and partners. Assist with community education campaigns, presentations, and advocacy efforts. Support grant‑related activities, reporting, and special projects. Perform other duties as assigned. Qualifications Experience working, volunteering, or leading activities with youth preferred. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to collaborate effectively with youth, community members, and partner organizations. Self‑motivated with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and stay organized. Commitment to working respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds. Requirements Education and/or experience working with youth, public health, education, or community programs preferred. A passion for working with youth. Bilingual skills (Spanish, Arabic, Somali, or other languages spoken in San Diego County communities) are a plus. Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Experience with Canva, Zoom, social media platforms, or data collection tools is a plus. Ability to work occasional evenings, weekends, and overnight trips for youth conferences and community events. Must successfully pass a background check prior to employment. Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds and transport program materials to meetings and events. Valid California driver's license, reliable transportation, and the ability to transport youth participants when needed.
