The role involves determining compliance with federal and state health and safety regulations, preparing detailed written reports, testifying at hearings or court proceedings, and providing guidance on corrective action to protect consumer health and safety. Responsibilities Conduct on‑site licensure inspections, complaint and incident investigations, and annual comprehensive surveys of licensed‑only nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, day activity and health services, and pediatric extended care centers. Investigate cases of abuse, neglect, and exploitation of adults and children with mental illness or intellectual, developmental, or physical disabilities. Prepare written reports detailing deficiencies, supportive narratives, and recommendations for corrective action. Ensure clear, concise documentation and correct chain of custody of evidence. Perform exit conferences with facility staff to discuss preliminary findings and remedial actions. Review and approve corrective action plans, enforce administrative penalties, and ensure timely remedial actions to protect consumer safety. Testify at hearings and court proceedings regarding investigation findings and compliance determinations. Train new hires through on‑the‑job instruction, mentoring, and shadowing. Participate in meetings to discuss major issues identified during inspections and investigations. Serve on call for emergencies, high‑priority situations, or weather events at provider facilities. Qualifications Four‑year degree from an accredited college or university is preferred. Experience conducting investigations (preferred). Experience working with individuals with mental illness, intellectual or developmental disabilities, or physical disabilities (preferred). Valid Class C or higher Texas driver’s license or equivalent. Must pass a fingerprint criminal background check and complete E‑Verify I‑9 documentation on first day. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Knowledge of local, state, and federal laws and regulations related to long‑term care services. Skill in conducting inspections and investigations and determining appropriate courses of action. Skill in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Ability to work independently, prepare reports, interpret laws, gather and analyze data, and exercise professional judgment. Ability to multi‑task and track multiple activities with competing priorities. Comfort working in potentially emotion‑filled or violent environments. Proficiency with computer, tablet, laptop, smartphone, fax machine, copy machine, and standard software packages. Additional Information Requires 80% travel statewide, including overnight and weekend travel. Flexibility in work hours is required; work may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
