HVAC Truck Based Journeymen Mechanic (union)

Position Overview

Johnson Controls Inc. is seeking experienced HVAC Mechanics to support our expanding HVAC business in North America. Mechanics will work on light and heavy commercial teams, maintaining and repairing advanced commercial and industrial equipment.

Responsibilities

• Perform maintenance, repair, and replacement services on commercial heating and cooling systems.
• Partner with Journeymen to repair centrifugal, steam turbines, and open‑drive screw chillers.
• Provide high‑level service to resolve facility inefficiencies and service‑related items.
• Act as a trusted advisor to customers, delivering solutions and outcomes during commissioning and aftermarket service.
• Provide recommendations and quotes, including upselling opportunities to improve facility efficiency.
• Support branch customers’ activities, troubleshooting, installation, and repair, traveling 10–20% as needed.
• Participate in the Service Technical Academy (STA) for factory certification and career advancement.
• Accept a knowledge examination to assess proficiencies and pass a skills examination when required.

Qualifications

• Member or willing to join the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe‑Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada, AFL‑CIO.
• Minimum 3 years of commercial/industrial HVAC mechanical troubleshooting experience (rooftop units, pumps, fans, towers, boilers, chillers, compressors, plumbing).
• Experience in mechanical shaft alignment with dial indicators and vibration equipment for troubleshooting drivelines.
• Ability to write and communicate customer problem, cause, and corrective actions.
• Valid driver’s license, Universal EPA refrigerant license, and applicable state or local licensing.
• Self‑starter with passion for learning and applying new skills on the job.
