Occupational Health Nurse (RN) / Nurse Practitioner (NP)

Location: Cincinnati, Ohio

Position Summary

The Occupational Health Nurse is responsible for leading and coordinating occupational health programs within a chemical manufacturing environment. This role provides clinical care for workplace injuries and illnesses while managing workers' compensation, disability administration, leave management, medical surveillance, and employee wellness initiatives. The position partners closely with Human Resources, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), Operations, and leadership to promote a safe, healthy, and compliant workplace.

The ideal candidate is a proactive healthcare professional with strong clinical judgment, case management experience, and a passion for employee health and safety. Nurse Practitioners are preferred; however, experienced Registered Nurses with occupational health or industrial nursing experience are encouraged to apply.

Essential ResponsibilitiesOccupational Health & Injury Management

• Provide first aid, medical assessment, and proactive case management for workplace injuries and illnesses.
• Coordinate and manage workers' compensation claims from initial injury through claim resolution and return to work.
• Develop and oversee transitional duty and return-to-work programs.
• Communicate with employees, supervisors, medical providers, insurance carriers, and third-party administrators regarding case status and medical restrictions.
• Maintain OSHA injury and illness records, including OSHA 300 logs and related documentation.
• Assist with incident investigations and identify injury prevention opportunities.

Leave & Disability Administration

• Administer FMLA, ADA accommodations, short-term disability, long-term disability, and other leave programs.
• Coordinate fitness-for-duty evaluations and medical clearances.
• Ensure compliance with all leave and accommodation requirements.

Medical Surveillance & Compliance

• Coordinate required medical surveillance programs, including physicals, respirator fit testing, audiometric testing, pulmonary function testing, and other occupational health screenings.
• Maintain confidential employee medical records in compliance with HIPAA.
• Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, DOT, and company occupational health standards.

Employee Health & Wellness

• Promote employee wellness and preventive health initiatives.
• Provide education on workplace safety, ergonomics, and health awareness.
• Support emergency response preparedness and site safety initiatives.

Administrative Responsibilities

• Maintain accurate occupational health documentation and case management records.
• Analyze injury trends and generate reports related to workers' compensation, absenteeism, and health metrics.
• Assist in developing and improving occupational health policies and procedures.

QualificationsEducation & Experience

• Registered Nurse (RN) license required.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
• Nurse Practitioner (NP) preferred. Highly qualified Registered Nurses (RNs) with occupational health, case management, industrial nursing, or emergency/acute care experience will also be considered and are encouraged to apply.
• Minimum of 3–5 years of occupational health, industrial nursing, emergency medicine, case management, or related clinical experience preferred.
• Chemical manufacturing or industrial experience strongly preferred.
• Experience managing workers' compensation, disability, and leave administration required.

Preferred Certifications

• COHN or COHN-S certification preferred.
• Certified Case Manager (CCM) preferred.
• Current BLS certification required; ACLS certification preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

• Knowledge of OSHA, ADA, FMLA, HIPAA, workers' compensation, and occupational health regulations.
• Strong clinical assessment and case management skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities.
• Ability to build relationships across all levels of the organization.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and HRIS systems.
