Details Work within the Staff Float Pool MedSurg unit of a 492-bed Level I Trauma Center with a Level III NICU and Primary Stroke Center Assigned to a home unit on the first day of orientation, which may include Trauma Surgical, Neuroscience, MedSurg/Oncology, Orthopedics, or MS/Ortho/Urology units Patient ratios range from 1:4-6, typically 1:4 12-hour night shifts (7p-7a), 36-48 hours per week Weekend rotation required (every other weekend or 4 weekend days per month) No on-call requirements Floating required to similar units (MS-MS, MS-ICU task, MS-ER/MS holds, ICU-ICU, ICU-MS task, ICU-ER/ICU holds) EMR: Cerner required; Epic experience also considered Equipment used includes Plum 360 IV pumps, Omnicell medication dispensing, and Spacelabs monitors Telemetry monitored by dedicated techs, but RNs are required to interpret and confirm strip readings every 4 hours 4-week schedule cycle utilizing Smart Square, no self-scheduling Requirements Active AL or compact RN license required Current BLS and NIHSS certifications required Minimum 18 months of experience in MedSurg and/or ICU required Cerner EMR experience required if background is strictly ICU Unit-specific skills may include wound care, chest tube care, NGT, PEG, trach care, IV starts, foley/drain management, and medication administration Telemetry experience preferred and should be disclosed if applicable Additional Information First-time travelers will be considered for this position Support staff on units includes CNAs, HUC/receptionist, charge nurses, phlebotomy, IV/VAT team, hospitalists, and telemetry techs Travelers new to the facility or returning after 1 year receive 24 hours of classroom orientation and 24 hours on the unit Former staff must wait 6 months from their last shift before returning as a traveler Holiday coverage includes one major and one minor seasonal holiday per policy, though not guaranteed time off prior to arrival Facility maintains blackout RTO dates throughout 2026 with limited exceptions requiring management approval Scrub color is unrestricted Free parking available in designated deck levels Candidates must reside outside a 60-mile radius of the facility to be eligible American Traveler Job ID P-748924.
