Role Description The Commercial Lines Underwriter is a full-time, on‑site role based in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This role is responsible for reviewing and analyzing commercial insurance applications, assessing risk exposures, and determining appropriate coverage terms, conditions, and pricing in accordance with company guidelines. Day‑to‑day tasks include evaluating financial and operational information for commercial clients, preparing quotations, issuing policies, and managing renewals and endorsements. The underwriter collaborates closely with agents, brokers, and internal teams to clarify underwriting requirements, provide guidance on coverage options, and ensure timely and accurate service. The role also involves maintaining thorough documentation, monitoring the performance of assigned accounts, and supporting continuous improvement of underwriting processes and standards. Qualifications Strong knowledge of Insurance and Commercial Lines Underwriting, including risk assessment and policy structures. Demonstrated Analytical Skills for evaluating financial data, risk profiles, and coverage needs. Proven Customer Service abilities to support agents, brokers, and clients with prompt, professional assistance. Effective Communication skills, both written and verbal, for negotiating terms and explaining coverage clearly. Attention to detail and organizational skills for managing multiple accounts and deadlines. Proficiency with office and insurance systems; experience with underwriting software is an advantage. Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, insurance, or a related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience. Prior experience in commercial lines underwriting or a similar insurance role in Puerto Rico is strongly beneficial.
