Post-Doctoral Fellowship in Advanced MR Spectroscopy Requisition #: A-180323-11 School: School of Medicine Position Type: Postdoctoral Fellowship Shift Type: Full Time Salary Range: $62,232 - $62,232 per year Research group led by Dr. Georg Oetlzschner at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine is seeking a two-year Postdoctoral Fellow. The fellow will work on NIH‑funded projects focused on developing novel data processing and analysis methods for in‑vivo MR spectroscopy (MRS) and applying these methods in the human brain. Goals include improving reliability and reproducibility of MRS metabolite concentration estimation, demonstrating biomarker utility for function and disease, and disseminating new methods via the open‑source MRS analysis platform "Osprey". Key Responsibilities Develop and apply novel methods for modeling in‑vivo MRS data, including advancing a general linear‑combination model. Create quantitative metrics such as information criteria to evaluate model performance. Develop new sampling methods based on Markov Chain Monte Carlo to solve optimization problems and characterize modeling uncertainty. Acquire MRS data from healthy volunteers and patients with brain tumors and other disorders. Integrate newly developed methods into the "Osprey" platform and maintain its dissemination. Support user community of the "Osprey" platform. Beyond core duties, opportunities exist to: Develop new MRS/MRI pulse sequences. Develop methods to parametrize or eliminate MRS artifacts such as lipid contamination. Create deep‑learning–based processing and analysis methods. Develop quantification routines for pediatric or aging cohorts. The candidate is expected to: Work independently and collaboratively within a large interdisciplinary research team. Adhere to responsible and reproducible research principles. Draft and submit manuscripts to leading peer‑reviewed journals (e.g., Magnetic Resonance in Medicine). Present abstracts at leading annual society meetings (e.g., ISMRM). Qualifications Key Qualifications Ph.D. in Medical Physics, Biomedical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Neuroscience, or a related field. Experience with signal processing, data modeling, non‑linear optimization, and MR physics. Strong programming skills in MATLAB, Python, R, C++, and/or similar. Experience with MRS data is desirable but not required. Ability to work independently and collaboratively. Preferred Skills Hands‑on experience acquiring and analyzing in‑vivo MRS data. Knowledge in complex optimization problem solving. Knowledge of statistical analysis methods for biomedical research. Experience with reproducible research, open‑science practices, and version control (OSF, Git, Docker, Jupyter, R Markdown). Strong publication record in MRI/MRS, NMR spectroscopy, or clinical neuroimaging.
