Job Post Summary Date posted: November 27, 2025 Pay: $50,000 - $85,000 per year Job Description Position: Maintenance Mechanic Location: Chicago, Illinois Reports to: Plant Manager Hours: 2nd shift 3:00 PM – 11:30 PM, 3rd shift 11 PM – 7:30 AM Key Responsibilities The maintenance mechanic will provide operational support for an organics recycling facility. They will be responsible for troubleshooting and maintaining automated stationary and mobile equipment to minimize unplanned downtime. They will be cross‑trained in the normal and safe operation of production machinery and plant systems and will work side‑by‑side with technician‑level operators. Plant critical process equipment includes biogas screw compressors, biogas reciprocating compressors, hot water boilers, air compressors, package chillers, pumps, hydraulic power systems, milling equipment, and conveyors. The maintenance mechanic must be able to safely work around energized equipment and adhere to company and industry safety standards and policies. The maintenance mechanic should have a solid technical foundation and understand mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems, and have experience with basic fabrication and welding. They will help develop and execute preventative maintenance programs for each asset, prioritize maintenance activities, and minimize unplanned downtime. Candidates should be able to accurately interpret equipment manuals and drawings, including assembly drawings, part drawings, exploded views, basic wiring schematics, hydraulic schematics, and piping drawings. The maintenance mechanic will be responsible for tracking and maintaining parts inventory, requisitioning materials, and gathering order information/specifications/quotes to complete jobs. They will be required to use mobile devices and computers to monitor processes, record and report data, and communicate with coworkers daily. While the focus of the position is an expert in mechanical systems and components, as part of the Green Era operations team they will be trained to operate all aspects of the facility. Maintenance staff shall be required to be on‑call every other weekend (EOW). Any call‑in will be compensated at the overtime rate with a minimum of four (4) hours paid. Experience/Education 3 or more years of experience working in an industrial environment as a maintenance technician. Lift 75 pounds on a regular basis is required. Remain on your feet for full 8‑hour shift, including walking and climbing stairs. Work on ladders and scaffolding. Work from and operate mobile work platforms, including scissor lifts and man lifts.
