Director of Software Engineering, HR Tech

Salary: $61,000 - 101,000 per year Requirements:

• Formal software engineering training or certification, along with 10+ years of practical experience
• 5+ years leading technologists to resolve complex technical challenges within a domain
• Demonstrated success leading mission-critical platforms with high availability, strong operational discipline, and measurable results
• Experience delivering modern web and API platforms, including distributed systems, service-oriented architectures or microservices, and integration-heavy environments
• Strong cloud-native engineering expertise, such as AWS or an equivalent platform, with knowledge of reliability, security, cost management, and SDLC automation
• Ability to influence and align senior business, product, and technology leaders while communicating strategy, risks, and delivery progress clearly
• Practical understanding of engineering controls and security, including identity and access management, data privacy, secure SDLC, vulnerability management, and audit/compliance expectations
• Strong people leadership skills, including hiring, mentoring, talent growth, and building inclusive, high-performing teams
• Experience introducing agentic AI-enabled engineering practices across teams, including human-in-the-loop checks, quality gates, outcome measurement, and secure handling of sensitive inputs and outputs
• Strong grasp of responsible AI use and governance in engineering workflows, including data sensitivity, security, resiliency, and reuse patterns
• Preferred: experience with HR technology and Talent Acquisition workflows, including ATS/CRM platforms, candidate pipelines, scheduling, offers, background checks, and onboarding
• Preferred: experience integrating HR and talent applications with enterprise HR suites and broader vendor ecosystems
• Preferred: familiarity with modern full-stack engineering, including React, TypeScript, and enterprise design systems
• Preferred: backend and API expertise with Java, Spring Boot, GraphQL, REST API design, versioning, and governance
• Preferred: solid security and data fundamentals, including OAuth2/OIDC, service-to-service security, and data persistence technologies such as PostgreSQL/Aurora and graph stores like Neptune where relevant
• Preferred: experience with event-driven architectures using Kafka/MSK, including schema evolution, idempotency, and operational controls such as DLQs
• Preferred: strong platform engineering and delivery practices, including CI/CD, automated testing, IaC, containers, service blueprints, API/event governance, SLO/SLI frameworks, and responsible AI-assisted engineering

• Define the engineering vision and execution roadmap for the Talent Acquisition platform, balancing user experience, speed to market, reliability, and control requirements
• Lead multiple cross-functional engineering teams, including org design, hiring, coaching, performance management, and succession planning
• Shape platform architecture and modernization using cloud-native patterns, domain-driven boundaries, API and event strategies, and reusable capabilities
• Own end-to-end delivery and operations, including production readiness, incident response, reliability and SLOs, observability, cost management, and continuous improvement
• Oversee integrations with HR workforce and compensation systems, workflow tools, identity and access systems, analytics, and external talent acquisition vendors
• Establish and enforce engineering governance, including secure coding standards, architecture reviews, SDLC controls, change management, audit readiness, and engineering KPIs
• Partner with Product, UX, and HR stakeholders to translate strategy into outcomes and manage trade-offs effectively
• Manage third-party vendor and platform relationships, including due diligence, technical assessment, security posture, delivery oversight, and commercial and operational accountability
• Promote an engineering culture grounded in inclusion, accountability, high standards, and continuous learning
• Guide the use of AI-enabled engineering and SDLC automation to improve speed, quality, and operational outcomes while maintaining validation, security, resiliency, traceability, and reuse guardrails
• Apply knowledge of Software Development Life Cycle tools, including enterprise-authorized AI-assisted development and automation capabilities, to increase automation value and unlock capacity at scale
