CHIEF FINANCIAL AND OPERATING OFFICER

Reports to: Head of School Direct Reports: Director of Facilities, Director of Human Resources, Accounting Manager, IT Coordinator, Safety Coordinator, Food Service Director, Auxiliary/Summer Programs Manager About St. Martin’s Episcopal School Founded in 1947, St. Martin’s Episcopal School is the only Episcopal school in the greater New Orleans area serving students from infancy through 12th grade — from George Cottage’s early childhood program to a rigorous college-preparatory Upper School. Located on a picturesque 18-acre campus at 225 Green Acres Road in Metairie, Louisiana, St. Martin’s is home to approximately 500 students and 125 full-time faculty and staff. Position Summary The Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) is a senior leader accountable for the comprehensive management of the school’s financial, operational, and physical resources, ensuring alignment with the mission and Strategic Plan 2025. The CFOO leads finance and accounting, human resources, facilities and grounds, technology, food service, auxiliary and summer programs, safety and insurance, and compliance, and serves as liaison to the Board’s Finance, Physical Assets, and Risk Management committees. Key Responsibilities Strategic Financial Leadership: serve as trusted financial advisor to the Head of School and Board; lead annual operating budget process; provide financial analysis and reporting; oversee reserves, debt, endowment, and capital project financing; advise on tuition, financial aid budgets, and salary planning. Accounting, Compliance & Business Office Operations: direct payroll, A/P, A/R, cash management, student billing, benefits administration; maintain internal controls; coordinate with auditors; ensure regulatory compliance. Operations & Facilities Management: lead operational functions; supervise Facilities; oversee campus master planning; manage facilities for school activities and events; manage Facilities and Grounds Plan. Human Resources Leadership: oversee HR programs related to hiring/termination, time off, safety, performance, compensation; manage employee benefit programs and contracts. Student Billing & Financial Aid: supervise enrollment contracts and AR in FACTS; manage financial aid in Clarity; collaborate on financial aid awards; administer tuition refund insurance. Safety, Insurance & Risk Management: oversee risk management and insurance; advise on safety and legal risks; coordinate safety audits and emergency protocols. Auxiliary Services & Revenue Development: supervise Food Service; maximize auxiliary income; develop new revenue streams and monitor metrics. Leadership & Cross-Functional Partnership: build relationships with stakeholders; align financial planning with fundraising and donor relations. Qualifications Significant experience in financial and operational leadership within an independent school or similar nonprofit; CFO/CFOO experience preferred. Experience with budgeting, financial planning, accounting, reporting, and audits in a nonprofit setting. Ability to lead multiple operational functions including facilities, HR, food service, technology, and auxiliary services. Experience with long-range financial models and multi-year capital plans; governance support with Head of School and Board of Trustees. Strong collaboration with senior leaders and ability to translate institutional vision into actionable plans.
