Mechanical Maintenance Specialist, Chemical Manufacturing Operations Join a team that wins with customers

At PPG in Barberton/Norton, OH, you will keep mission-critical production assets humming. Your craft keeps our people safe and our customers supplied.

Role snapshot

• Pay: $34.80/hour starting
• Bonuses: $1,000 sign-on (paid at 90 and 180 days) + $1,000 retention (paid at 12 months)
• Shifts: 2nd (Mon–Fri, 3:00 pm–11:00 pm) or 3rd (Sun–Thu, 11:00 pm–7:00 am)
• Overtime: Based on business needs

What you will do

• Install, modify, and repair plant machinery; restore equipment to optimal condition.
• Diagnose issues in complex building and production systems; replace/repair components and verify performance.
• Execute preventive and predictive maintenance across belts, piping, filters, mixers, valves, bearings, motors, gearboxes, dies, extruders, feeders, rolls, drive chains, classifiers, mills, seals, and pumps.
• Troubleshoot quickly, proof-test, and prevent recurrence through robust fixes.
• Apply 5S to maintain safe, clean, and efficient work areas.
• Read and interpret manuals, blueprints, CAD drawings, and schematics; complete accurate records.
• Observe running equipment to detect malfunctions early.
• Perform basic welding and fabrication to support maintenance tasks.
• Work in confined spaces and at heights (ladders, scaffolds, platforms, roofs) safely.

What you bring

• 5+ years in industrial maintenance; chemical plant experience preferred.
• Maintenance Apprenticeship or Mechanical Institute credential.
• Proven capability rebuilding pumps and gearboxes.
• HVAC or Electrical background strongly preferred.
• Ability to work at heights/confined spaces; lift and perform manual labor.
• Computer skills: Word, Excel, and CMMS (MicroMain, SAP, or similar).
• Able to wear PPE, including a respirator.
• Reliable attendance and safety mindset; open to overtime.
