Mechanical Designer

STS Technical Services is hiring a Mechanical Designer in Watertown, Wisconsin, to support the design and development of stainless-steel equipment, custom machinery and mechanical assemblies. This is a full-time, on-site opportunity for an experienced designer with strong SolidWorks skills and hands‑on experience creating production‑ready drawings, 3D models, sheet metal components and weldments. Position Details Job Title: Mechanical Designer Location: Watertown, Wisconsin Employment Type: Full‑Time Work Location: On‑Site Schedule: Typically 40 Hours Per Week Position Overview The Mechanical Designer will support the development of fabrications, machinery and mechanical devices from initial design through production documentation. This position is responsible for creating detailed drawings, 3D models, specifications and bills of materials that clearly communicate design intent and manufacturing requirements. The role also works closely with manufacturing personnel to troubleshoot design and production issues and develop practical solutions that can be successfully built on the shop floor. Responsibilities Perform mechanical design work using SolidWorks Design fabrications and sheet metal components Design mechanical assemblies and weldments Support machining and electrical integration requirements Create detailed engineering drawings and 3D models Develop specifications and bills of materials Provide detailed component descriptions and design documentation Work closely with manufacturing personnel to resolve design and production issues Review engineering specifications and project requirements Apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles during the design process Develop detailed specifications for components and machinery Specify dimensions, materials and finishes Define applicable manufacturing procedures Specify and select purchased components for new and improved designs Consult technical resources and reference materials throughout development Create equipment installation manuals Create operation and maintenance manuals Respond to internal and customer technical questions as directed Support special projects and additional related duties as assigned Qualifications Minimum of two years of relevant mechanical design experience Proficiency with SolidWorks Strong SolidWorks sheet metal design experience Working knowledge of AutoCAD Strong written and verbal communication skills Strong technical communication skills Ability to prioritize work across multiple projects Strong attention to detail Strong organizational skills Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities Proficiency with Microsoft Word Proficiency with Microsoft Excel Ability to work independently Ability to make sound decisions within established guidelines Thorough and detail‑oriented approach to design and documentation Reliable work ethic and strong attendance Professional and collaborative approach when working with others Preferred Education Associate or bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Design Engineering or a related field Schedule & Work Environment Typically 40 hours per week Regular work schedule established with the supervisor Schedule changes, vacation and additional hours require advance approval Position is performed on‑site in Watertown, Wisconsin Overtime may be required based on workload and project demands Work may involve tight deadlines and changing workloads Occasional overnight or weekend travel may be required Physical & Mental Demands Ability to sit and perform computer‑based work for extended periods Ability to talk, hear and see effectively for workplace communication Ability to stand and walk throughout the workday Ability to work effectively under tight timelines Ability to adapt to changing priorities Ability to manage multiple projects while maintaining attention to detail Benefits 401(k) 401(k) matching Health insurance Paid time off About STS Technical Services STS Technical Services is a Top 100 Staffing Firm that partners with leading aerospace, manufacturing, defense and industrial organizations across the United States.
