Raleigh Swimming Association (RSA), founded by former All American and North Carolina State University Athletic Director Bill Sonner, is a community-focused organization dedicated to exceptional aquatic programming. RSA serves participants from infancy through older adulthood through its USA Swimming competitive swim team, structured swim lesson programs, and U.S. Masters swimming offerings. Role Description: The Executive Director is a full-time, on-site leadership role based in Raleigh, NC, responsible for overseeing all aspects of RSA’s operations and programs. This role manages organizational strategy, budgets, and resource allocation to ensure sustainable growth and high-quality aquatic programming. Daily responsibilities include supervising staff and coaches, fostering positive relationships with swimmers, families, and community partners, and ensuring program scheduling and facility usage run smoothly. The Executive Director leads marketing, membership outreach, fundraising initiatives, and stakeholder communication to strengthen RSA’s presence in the local and regional swimming community. This position also ensures compliance with relevant regulations, maintains safety and risk management standards, and reports regularly to the board on organizational performance and goals. Key Responsibilities: Serve as the primary liaison between staff and the Board of Directors, attend monthly board meetings, and provide regular updates. Oversee employee onboarding, benefits communication, payroll administration, tax payments, 403(b) contributions, and organizational compliance. Develop and manage the annual operating budget and financial reports. Ensure tax documents, including W-2s and Form 990, are prepared and distributed on time. Maintain the facility calendar, coordinate rentals and special events, and identify opportunities for new programming. Manage and support the Head Coach, Operations Manager, and their teams, including performance expectations, goal setting, and required certifications. Manage vendor relationships and ensure timely payments. Develop new programs and revenue opportunities. Coordinate fundraising opportunities, including sponsorships and grants. Manage member and community communications, including website updates and special announcements. Address and resolve member or participant concerns. Maintain RSA’s one-year, three-year, and ten-year strategic plans. Represent RSA professionally with members, employees, vendors, sponsors, community partners, and regulatory organizations. Qualifications At least five years of management experience in a nonprofit, membership-based organization that provides youth sports programming; aquatics experience is preferred. At least five years of financial management experience, including budgeting, financial reporting, and payroll administration. Experience developing and managing vendor relationships. Strong communication, organizational, customer service, and problem-solving skills. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively with a volunteer Board of Directors. Knowledge of USA Swimming, SafeSport, U.S. Masters Swimming, or aquatics operations is preferred but not required. Work Expectations Maintain regular office hours at the Sonner Aquatic Facility. Attend occasional evening and weekend events. Benefits Complimentary RSA programming, including swim team dues, with family discounts or additional complimentary programming as approved by the Board. Eligibility for RSA’s retirement plan and any discretionary employer contribution. Reimbursement for approved business expenses and professional dues. Additional compensation and benefits may be included in the final offer.
