The Trial Court Division prosecutes more than 29,000 cases annually and prosecutes more than 1 in 5 jury trials in the State. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office seeks attorneys dedicated to public service, public safety, and fairness and justice for all who come into contact with the criminal justice system. The Sex Crimes and Domestic Violence Deputy Prosecutor is dedicated solely to the comprehensive disposition (from screening through sentencing) of all juvenile domestic violence and sexual assault cases where intimate or dating partner violence is the driving force behind the violence. This includes acts of physical violence as well as threats, property destruction and the use of technology. The Deputy Prosecutor will also give presentations to school aged youth and community organizations. Role Overview : A Misdemeanor/Level 6 Deputy Prosecuting Attorney in Indiana handles high-volume caseloads involving low-level offenses, including initial screenings, plea negotiations, and trials. Responsibilities include working with law enforcement, preparing evidence, and supporting victims. Duties and Responsibilities Represent the State of Indiana in all stages of criminal prosecution of Misdemeanors and Level 6 Felonies in Marion County Criminal and Juvenile Courts. This includes, but is not limited to: Review evidentiary and forensic reports. Identify and interview victims and witnesses. Prepare discovery and provide discovery to defense counsel. Litigate evidentiary and non-evidentiary motions. Review case files, applicable statutes, and case law. Determine an appropriate recommendation for case resolution. Handle jury trials and court trials. Work closely with the Victim Advocates and Latino Services Teams from the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office. Communicate with members of local, State, and Federal law enforcement, court personnel, and defense counsel. Follow the Marion County Prosecutor’s personnel policies, particularly with regard to confidentiality. Attend trainings, as directed. Other related duties as assigned. Salary Statement : The salary for this position traditionally starts at $76,000.00, but may be commensurate with education or work experience. What You’ll Need for Success Doctorate of Jurisprudence. Indiana State Bar admission; license in good standing. Thorough knowledge of federal, state, and local law, procedures, and precedents pertaining to the agency's function and purpose. Demonstrate commitment to public service. Possess the capacity for a strong work ethic. Ability to manage a highly demanding workload. Soundproblem-solving and decision-making skills. Display excellent organizational skills. Demonstrate the ability to work in a team environment. Possess good communication skills, both written and verbal. Have a working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Outlook. Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports This role may be utilized in a supervisory capacity based on agency needs.
