Internal Medicine Veterinarian - Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists

Position Overview We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Veterinary Internist to join our team at Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists (ACNYVS) in Bohemia, New York. The ideal candidate will be passionate about providing high‑quality veterinary care, possess excellent communication skills to build lasting relationships with clients, and work alongside experienced veterinarians, technicians, and support staff. This position offers a leadership opportunity and requires close collaboration with the Hospital Manager and Regional Director. Location Atlantic Coast New York Veterinary Specialists (ACNYVS) in Bohemia, New York – a 24‑hour specialty and emergency hospital serving the Long Island area. Key Responsibilities Comprehensive patient exams and medical work‑ups Client communication and education Maintaining accurate medical records Pharmacy duties such as prescribing medications and following controlled substance protocols Promote teamwork and staff efficiency Work with the Hospital Manager on weekly priorities and expectations Evaluate and monitor protocols for the daily running of the hospital from intake to discharge Monitor cases and attend daily rounds when possible to ensure high standards are upheld Qualifications (Required) Veterinarian degree (DVM or VMD) from an accredited college or university 1‑year rotational internship in small animal medicine, surgery, or ER (university or large referral practice) Completed a 3‑year, AVMA‑approved residency program Current State Veterinary License DEA registration maintained Strong diagnostic and clinical skills Ability to work well in a team‑oriented environment Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills Commitment to providing compassionate and high‑quality veterinary care Effective communication with all members of the medical and hospital staff Client communication skills: ability to elicit information, establish rapport, and offer explanations to pet owners Confident and reassuring demeanor with stressed, ill, or painful patients Preferred Skills (Nice to Have) Board Certification 2–5 years of experience post‑residency Demonstrated clinical knowledge and skill in comprehensive examinations and specific systems (cardiovascular, respiratory, orthopedic, neurological) Problem‑solving skills to address challenges in high‑quality hospital management Excellent communication of diagnostic and therapeutic options to clients and internal staff Professionalism, constructive criticism, and feedback capability Business acumen related to veterinary hospital practice management and finances Ethics knowledge and application of ethical principles in patient care decisions Commitment to continuing education and facilitation of others’ learning Benefits We care deeply about supporting our team members — professionally and personally.
