The Institute hosts more than 200 events each year, with our annual flagship event, Global Conference, bringing together 4,500+ participants from around the world, featuring more than 900+ speakers throughout 200+ sessions over the course of the event. About the Position The Milken Institute is seeking a full-time, paid Intern for a twelve-month period to support the Milken Institute's Outreach and Engagement team in Santa Monica. This position may work up to 40 hours per week. Reporting to the Associate Director, Engagement and Digital Transformation, the intern will contribute to data management, event marketing research, and initiatives that enhance event engagement through technology. The role involves collaboration across Business and Program Development, Global Programming, Information Technology, Marketing and Communications, and other Pillars and departments, and offers hands‑on experience in event operations within a mission‑driven organization. The right candidate will be detail‑oriented with strong organizational skills, comfortable working with data and technology platforms, eager to learn about event marketing strategies, and able to collaborate effectively across multiple teams. Responsibilities Assist in creating reports and synthesizing data to support insights and recommendations that maximize the impact of Institute events and programs. Maintain contact, attendee, and event data across systems, including data cleanup, entry, and ongoing quality management. Research and summarize industry best practices and emerging strategies in event communications, including email marketing, project management, event webpages, and event technology. Refine attendee‑facing touchpoints such as webpages, registration paths, and the event app to improve the user experience. Duties as assigned Qualifications Bachelor's degree in progress or completed. Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast‑paced environment. Self‑directed and proactive, with a willingness to take on tasks of any scope and support colleagues in meeting deadlines. Clear written and verbal communication skills. Comfort working with data and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint). Salesforce experience is a plus. Ability to work independently and produce quality work with minimal supervision in a hybrid/remote environment. Intellectual curiosity and genuine interest in events, communications, or the Institute's mission areas. Working Conditions & Travel Requirements This position may work a hybrid schedule consisting of three (3) days per week reporting in‑person to the Santa Monica office location (Tuesday – Thursday), with the remaining two (2) days working remote. The specific schedule will be determined by the supervisor and is subject to change at the Institute’s sole discretion. This position will work in a professional office environment. This person may be required to travel occasionally to local venues to assist with events as needed, requiring occasional work outside of traditional hours. Additionally, this position requires interacting virtually on a regular basis with Milken Institute staff based in other locations in the United States and around the world.
